More seriously though, I do think there is merit in an actual ecological study of IQ like that rather than a classroom setting. If you are indeed testing intelligence as opposed to sudoku solving, then its application in real life scenarios like academia, income, physiology, healthcare maintenance and so on are pudding proofs instead of theoretical ones. But you may argue environment interferes with potential too much as well.

I’ve read God Delusion about 10 years ago. Believe it or not I didn’t find Dawkins convincing. Partly because it is of course much easier to disprove theology than the notion of any god at all.

I agree that the combined IQ of the commenters on this blog is higher than average, but I don’t agree that the incoherent blathering of the so-called “eccentric” commenters indicates a high level of intelligence. Of course, it’s difficult to tell who is and isn’t trolling, so I might be incorrectly interpreting some trollish comments as sincere. Regardless, I have no qualms about calling these people “idiots.” Generally speaking, racism is associated with low IQ, not high IQ; and, sadly, many of the commenters here are full-fledged racists. Now, it’s one thing to have an intellectual interest in racial disparities (although, if unchecked, such an interest can devolve into true racism); it’s another thing to spew racial slurs and prattle on and on about absurd antisemitic conspiracies. As an Ashkenazi Jew, I admit that some stereotypes about Jews are true—all stereotypes have some truth to them—but the brutish, nasty, poorly articulated antisemitism displayed in these comments is akin to what I see in YouTube comments (or, more generously, on /pol/). It would be nice if the HBD community moderated itself better, rather than give disbelievers the opportunity to dismiss it as nothing but racist and hateful.
I’ve been to a number of places online, particularly forums involving obscure intellectual interests, where the collective IQ of the commenters seems to be well above average. This blog is not one of them, unfortunately, although PP himself is a smart guy.

Judging from some of the recent comments alone, there is not much semblance of intelligence or coherence to be found, but even people like “Trumpocalypse” have made past posts indicative of intelligence, despite his storm of shitposts and cringy persona. It is through an overview of some posters’ general contribution that I can gauge that they are at least above average intelligence, more evidently in general verbal ability.
I agree that ideally a more tightly moderated community would result in overall better discussions; I have made some past posts saying that allowing shitposts to thrive harms the blog’s reputation, tarnishes the quality of discussion, and reflects badly on all of us.
Presumably, other forums have active moderation and regulation of content, filtering out all “undesirable” comments, and setting a certain standard for the community, while this blog might not have the same intention and might value an uncensored exchange of ideas, regardless of content.
Apparently, PP has said that Trumpocalypse has been banned from many blogs, and in response to my question of why he allows Trumpocalypse to insult him, stated: “I don’t mind if a few people insult me if they can do in an entertaining or interesting way. It’d be a pretty boring blog if I only allowed sycophants.”
It only makes sense that any blog that allows this type of content, where no one has fear of getting banned or silenced, is going to see an increased amount of this activity and be home to many people who are unwelcome in other communities.
Perhaps those forums had a different intention than this particular blog, and PP places more value on free, unregulated discussion, where everyone’s opinion is allowed, and finds it unfair to ban people on the basis of making “racist” comments that others don’t like. Shit, maybe he just gets kicks out of it and finds it entertaining. Either way, different blogs have their own pros and cons, and these may be weighed differently depending on the person.
In my opinion, I only think comments that are completely irrelevant and nonsensical should be deleted.

@Elliot: I appreciate the nuanced response. For the most part, I am a strong proponent of free speech, but I still think that there are limits to what should be allowed on particular websites. Don’t get me wrong—if we were on 4chan, a site where everyone is anonymous and people are rightfully allowed to post about anything, I would not be encouraging this kind of censorship. However, because the HBD community is not that large, I feel like it would be best if racist comments (i.e., comments using racial slurs) were not published.
Of course, my opinion does not matter much, as I am not the owner of this blog: PP is the one who will decide whether or not to moderate more harshly. Personally, I hope that he does—not because I am thin-skinned, but because I care about how HBD is viewed by the “normies” (I love that word), and this is one of the more popular HBD blogs out there.
Well, as my half-Jewish heroine Jamie Lee Curtis (star of Halloween) said, “the solution to bad speech is more speech.” That’s why I never much care when people severely criticise me, because I believe when all the facts are on the table, the truth wins.
Now having said, racial slurs are not arguments and they should be censored. Just in the last 24 hours I had to moderate eight of Trumpocalypse’s comments because they were either incredibly childish or incredibly hateful.
@pumpkinperson: You have a great mindset when it comes to criticism. Obviously I don’t want you to censor dissenting views, just the caustic sort of comments that I’ve seen around here as of late. There are plenty of smart people who comment on this blog, and it’s a shame that their voices have been overshadowed by such nasty spam.
PP has moderated many of my comments on the truth if a certain event that occurred 70 years ago. So he does his job there (despite my wanting that truth to get out). So he does mod what he sees doesn’t belong here.
But talking about Jewish nepotism and the like, in my opinion, should be a main cornerstone of HBD since the Jews have their class in our societies. The words “antisemite” are a shield from the truth that the Jews use so no one talks about the truth.
I do agree more quality discussion should occur. Seeing Mugabe’s ramblings is annoying. But he does say some good stuff from time to time. I think the open threads will be good so actual threads can be on topic.

The world is full of people who are intellectually cretinous, surprisingly, new commentators who are only versions of the same unacceptable level of pedantry which can be observed in delayed melo.
All these pseudo-intelligent should be at least admitted to hospices or some benevolent government, in fact, benevolent, should tell to them, in the polite and straightforward way they are not these beings beyond good and evil, natural observers of the reality as they think they are.
The most interesting is to realize that, to psychology or to behavior, most people find themselves fantastic to comment, to argue, to advise, and yet a good portion of them will be only partially correct on it. Most people think they are natural experts in behavior, and this illusion is stronger among the ” smarter ”, which in fact are even more stupid and dangerous than the masses, which in most cases, only obeys orders of his ‘superior’.
If you want to get a eugenics, look no only in poor neighborhoods, but especially in universities and look to the most of those pseudo-intellectual dandies who infest these places will not go through a really correct sieve, from the humanities to the physics.
