Excluding the 10 troll perfect scores by commenter Mug of Pee, it seems 186 readers have shared their PATMA scores in the anonymous poll. By normalizing the distribution of my readers’ PATMA scores and assuming a mean IQ and SD of 129 and 19 respectively compared to the U.S. mean and SD of 100 and 15 respectively, the following chart was achieved.
PATMA score | frequency among PP readers | percentile rank among PP readers | IQ (U.S. norms) | IQ (U.S. white norms) |
10 | 22 | 94.08 | 159 | 158 |
9 | 41 | 77.15 | 143 | 141 |
8 | 49 | 47.04 | 128 | 126 |
7 | 44 | 26.6 | 118 | 116 |
6 | 21 | 10.48 | 105 | 102 |
5 | 6 | 3.03 | 94 | 91 |
4 | 2 | 1.08 | 91 | 88 |
3 | 1 | 0.54 | 86 | 82 |
2 | 0 | |||
1 | 0 | |||

I’m very happy that despite having no time limit, the PATMA appears to have such a high ceiling. I estimate that only about 10,000 people in all of America could score perfect on the PATMA.
Looks like despite no time limit, the PATMA is harder than the old SAT math.
I hate to sound creepy, but how’d you end up working nights? Did you finish college?
pp’s mentioned you a couple times.
LOL Shes a hooker.
the so-called Gf is also just pure speed tests.
so old people don’t say, “duh…”
it’s just that they don’t do the thing as fast.
PLUS…
the tests called tests of Gf are so artificial that once people get out of school they don’t do anything like them.
“[in practice] actuary stuff is like engineering. a lot of addition and subtraction.” — so said my MIT graduate in engineering boss in the corporate actuarial dept.
PLUS…
age related differences in raw scores on whatever must be adjusted for what steve shoe calls the frynn effect.
My gay best friend and I are loving dance class, annoyingly loudly but occasionally endearingly. Great way to release some existential angst.
a lot of age related cognitive decline, like physical decline, is just…
“this is stupid. why am i doing this?”
i mean pro afaletes and mathletes eventually grow up and get bored.
Yeah you even see this when you try to teach an elderly person how to use an iPhone.
Their ability to learn new stuff is impaired but they also just think it’s pointless and stupid.
why is then that people who genuinely have low IQs give the exact same reaction? an apparent lack in interest does not automatically equate to some latent potential…
there are age related changes in the brain. on average the brain shrinks.
from wikipedia:
Capablanca’s high blood pressure was not correctly diagnosed and treated until after the AVRO tournament, and caused him to lose his train of thought towards the end of playing sessions.
The gyri were flattened and sulci narrowed, consistent with years of extreme hypertension.
and there was a family history.
pepe, that’s an interesting estimate but I think you are severely underestimating the number of possible perfect scorers.
Do you mind if I share the test with some college people?
I’d be honored. Let me know how they do.
Ok
And my functional math IQ is definitely not 159 lol. I doubt my verbal level reaches quite that high, and I’m heavily over-weighted on verbal. Maybe low-to-mid 140s would be more accurate, and even that would be too high for heavily visual forms of math like geometry.
I sent you an e-mail about it
I agree with Ganzir. A 140+ result for me would be unusually high in my intuition, especially since (at least as far as I remember) the test was more algebraic than geometric if put on an algebraic to geometric spectrum, and algebra is the worst part of math for me.
I might’ve said this already, but I sent question 10 to a hundred or so of my college friends on snapchat and none of them could figure it out. I offered $10 for the first correct answer.
None of the guesses were even close.
I believe it.
If you assume they’re IQ 120 sd 10, getting the hardest question right would at minimum be IQ 143.
1/100 => z = 2.33
I can understand the assumption of mean 120, but why SD 10?
I figured the people I know sorta well are more similar to each other than members of the general population are.
And if I chose sd 15, my dumbest social media friend would have an 85 IQ, which doesn’t make sense.
I procrastinated for 3 days on a piece of work I had to do. I started to feel panic because there was a serious conflict between work and my very strong desire not to do something so boring. Anyway, in the end I did it and felt a lot better even if the task itself was manual and mind numbing. I suppose the great thing about my job is lots of free time usually and to decide when I do the work or not.
I had a similar scenario with PWC and theres no leeway to shirk there so I just quit my job rather than do the boring work.
We’ll see how long I last in my current role.
a lot like my job in the corporate actuarial dept at america’s biggets health insurance company.
i quit. my boss was disappointed.
but he may’ve only hired me because:
1. reverse white privilege…he was chinese; his people were chinese or chinese american; a jew was breathing down his neck.
2. he was chinese so he was impressed by high test scores.
but i’m sure he knew i wasn’t a jew despite…
all german names sound jewish to some people.
he made a jew joke just to me.
a guy in grad school i said, “maybe i could claim to be a jew.”
he said, “no. you look like a nazi.”
I’ve known lots of jews with german goy names. “Schwarz,” “Stine,” “Bachman,” etc.
Sometimes I wonder why I’m even working. Social welfare entitles me to the life I want to live. I will probably inherit enough to cover a pension need (maybe). It seems I’m working because I want to follow social etiquette and not be seen as a ‘dropout’ from society.
I had a 2 year work break and I’ve never been so productive with my gaming – 95 PS games and about 20 PC games all completed. Those were the days.
I have some friends that became ‘dropouts’. They didn’t even finish college. They sit around playing games and watching boxsets all day while their parents do all the housework. Thats the life of Riley. Most people would call them ‘losers’ I guess but in many ways they’re the winners and the salary man working 9-5 in a boring job for 50 years is the real loser.
Think of all that time you give to an employer. Its amazing how there aren’t more dropouts in society. In japan they call them hikomori.
With the welfare state in Europe its very viable financially in my opinion.
Very viable financially until the welfare state catches on and puts your ass to work
I can’t imaginr not working for 2 years. My coworkers are my life. We do everything together: movies, birthdays, weddings, bachelor parties, baby showers, pizza night, etc
Your CO-WORKERS are your life?!?! How dare you betray and devalue your blog commenters like that?!?!?!?!?!?!?
reasons why there aren’t more dropouts or semi-dropouts in the developed world:
1. women are shallow and brainwashed and want a bunch of useless shit. “gay men love men. women love status.”
2. men want women. if they didn’t they wouldn’t get out of bed except if they’re very competitive and working is like gaming is for pill or their work is actually meaningful to them. straight men don’t want stuff. they want to win or they want to make the world a better place.
3. the worst part of being poor in a developed country welfare state is having to live around poor people. lion has made this observation.
4. a lot of people have unbelievably shitty parents.
for very extroverted people work is like gaming is for more introverted people.
the industrial revolution selects for extroversion so much that introversion has become a disability.
but if you lived and died on a family farm like almost everyone used to 300 years ago…there’s zero need for extroversion…the introvert is better adapted.
Sick of Jewish comedians’ unfunny jokes about anti-semitism.
Does Matt Stone really think Kushner’s a patsy?
I also think being able to speak in rhyme is a very high IQ trait. Not many people can do it, even the rappers struggle with this.
Wtf do you mean rappers struggle with it? Have you ever even listened to rap!? The majority of blacks can rap but the top rappers in the game have no problem rhyming. Even the less relevant ones I post here can speak in rhyme very well.
Have you ever listened to J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, etc? MeLo would vouch for me saying that these guys can speak in rhyme as though it was a regular option of speaking to someone (especially considering J Cole is part of Melo’s avatar).
I just read that the McDonalds CEO eats McDonalds twice a day. Has he seen the factory farms? I read a book about the thrash in McDonalds food. Its a good read. I’m very surprised that he knows what goes into the food and eats so much.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Food_Nation
McDonalds is delicious. Before the pandemic forced us to work from home, coworkers and I would have it once a month.
I thought you said you were a vegetarian.
I tried to be for a while but now make some exceptions
maccies is one of the few fast food chains where the quality has gone up over the last couple decades or so. It’s pretty noticeable even in my lifetime.
So you admit to being evil
peepee is “very upper class” so she only eats mcd’s ironically.
i haven’t had fast food since i was 5 years old.
i haven’t had fast food since i was 5 years old.
That’s cause they don’t serve it at food banks.
eating at restaurants of any kind is evil like patronizing convenience stores.
he’s probably lying, but tobacco CEOs have often been smokers.
Anyone else think we should re-introduce slavery?
LOL at that point wouldn’t repatriation be better?
Yes slavery for schizos like you would indeed be beneficial!
Obama has a new book. I might buy it. I thought his previous 2 books were a bit bland but I remembered them quite well.
so you admit you’re brainwashed by Bob Rubin to worship peoples of magical ancestry?
peepee is misusing “peoples” because can’t speak english. people have ancestry not peoples.
peepee says, “what about my peoples, the trini douglas and haitians?”
Dear God you have a neurological disability: The Chinese & Japanese are peoples of East Asian ancestry.
I said I was a liberal many times.
Free markets mean slavery should be allowed. All the libertarians here should discuss this.
Doesn’t slavery violate the NAP? Lol
not if you “consent” to being a slave.
the world is full of bootlicker try-hards who’d elbow their way to the front of the line to work 140 hrs/week no pay just to get a job at Goldman Sachs. Sad!
two examples of how the supply curve can be (most of the time) downward sloping are:
1. drugs, pharmaceuticals
2. software.
that is, both of these have negligble marginal costs of production. when you download excel from the msft website this costs msft nothing. when you buy drugs at your drug store in almost all cases the pills cost less than a cent to produce.
there are exceptions to the cent per pill rule. some of the AIDS drugs were actually expensive to produce so drug companies couldn’t just give them away to poor black countries without losing money.
but the software code costs a shit ton to make and the drug molecule costs a shit ton to find in the universe of all molecules.
once again scott adams outgrabes me.
