let’s look at britain. about 40% of oxbridge students are from independent schools. about 14% of sixth form students attend an independent school. the equivalent in the US is not directly comparable because the US has lots more catholics and catholic schools are usually a lot cheaper. catholic schools are about 2/3ds of US private schools. and even with that consideration only about 8% of american high school students attend a private high school.
a recent incoming harvard class was 1/3 legacies. 40% of princeton students are from private schools.

No offense on Afro but Sciences Po is not a grande École . It’s a selective university that recruits by a mix of criteria similar to elite Uk or American universities. And the exam to be a solicitor has a 45% success rate with random candidates (not to be compared with American JD).
Grandes Écoles imply a large program with several courses (at least 5) with written and oral exams. Engenering, Business Management Schools, Administration, Army and Research are Grandes Écoles. The very best one are 3 : École normale supérieure d’Ulm (200), École Polytechnique (400) and Ena (80, half after civil service professional experience).
Then you have 9 other engineering schools and 3 business schools (HEC , ESSEC, ESCP , less than 400 each) and that’s all. Some of them gives masters wich are lot part of Grandes Écoles and don’t carry the prestige either. So it’s difficult to know when you are not French.
If you didn’t go to a preparatory school during at least 2 years after secondary éducation, you re not into a Grande École except at ENA that recruits people with at least a bachelor (and in general people from sciences Po or Grandes Écoles). Many people (around 500) from Grandes Écoles join Sciences Po for 2 years to get a knowledge of public sector xor prepare for Ena. But Sciences Po admits 1200 students a year .
Around 35 Sciences Po end up doing ENA (3% of their anual students) and more than half of them graduated from one or several Grandes Écoles before or after Sciences Po or had gained civil service profesional experience.
For example the program of Normale Sup Ulm in humanities is : philosophy, history, French littérature, latin + 2 other languages with no program.

Orthogonal doesn’t give any information (except a fancy way of saying it is not a personality trait per se). You could say cancer or being a dwarf is orthogonal to personality as convincingly. That doesn’t give you much info about cancer or dwarfism.
