Chimpanzees have a cranial capacity of about 400 cc, and a mean body weight of about 45 kg. If they weighed as much as a human in optimum physical shape, they’d be expected to have a cranial capacity of 498 cc.
Below is a chart showing the estimated average genetic IQ (i.e. the IQ they would have in First World middle class environments) of many human races, as a function of their average genetic brain size:
It is interesting to ask whether we can predict chimp IQ by extrapolating from human racial differences. When we enter the chimp brain size of 498 as X into the line of best fit, it predicts an IQ of only -46!
Could chimps really be that stupid?
Research suggests that on most cognitive tasks, chimps are at about the level of a Western 2.5-year-old, which equates to a deviation IQ of about 40 (U.S. white norms): 4 SD below the U.S. white mean.
On the Wechsler scales, if you average 4 SD below the mean on all subtests, your full-scale IQ is 5.71 SD below the mean, equating to an IQ of only 14.
So chimps probably have an IQ of perhaps as low as 14, which is 60 points higher than predicted from the population level correlation between IQ and brain size in humans.

IQ should fit an exponential function rather than a linear function because even mice have some intelligence. Mammals have the neocortex and the neocortex is structured for a unique form of cognition. Models appear the more mass it gains. Elephants can draw pictures of elephants with trees and the sun next to them. Intelligence is not just about the amount of information you process but how you process it. Elephants would have the intelligence of a 10-year-old if they had hands with fingers. Humans have the connectome necessary to understand theory of mind in a way that allows them to understand that theory of mind exists. A crow knows that another crow will steal its food so hides it in hundreds of places and sets decoys. They crow does not know that the concept (theory of mind exists).
A chimpanzee has a digit span of about 20. I think this because it can remember numbers better than most humans. I can remember 5 numbers. My digit span IQ is 85. A chimps digit span IQ is 140. Yet my theory of mind is more developed. Development is not just about the amount of information but the quality of information. It is possible to have a high throughput in information processing yet have little development. Paradigm shifts do occur when you look at the differences in quality.
btw – I scored 251 milliseconds on the reaction time test. This is equivalent to an IQ of 118. The coefficient of WIAS 4 is 0.7 (I think?) So 0.7(18) is 12.6, My FSIQ was 113. I think my test results were off quite a bit on the WAIS 4 from my real intelligence. My (g) may be higher as well. (g) I think leads to paradigm shifts. (quality development, theory of mind)

Organizing thought is a learned skill, it is important in law studies and social sciences, a little less in the STEM which appears to be his training. So he might not be used to that.

Quality>Quantity. Newer parts of the brain like the neocortex allow radically different things. I think I remember reading that the human brain shrank older parts of the brain and the phyiscal bodies muscularity and hardiness, to increase resources for newer parts like the frontal lobe and cortex. It makes sense evolutionary wise.

More specifically, the amount of neurons in the cerebral cortex matters the most. Humans have the most at 16 billion. 86 billion neurons in total. I’ll get figures for chimpanzees later from my book.
HBD should look at amount of neurons, not overall brain size.
