I don’t know what Brunson’s IQ is but he is a metaphor for why brain size tripled in 4 million years of human evolution. Despite being relatively short and unathletic, he dominates men much taller and more athletic thanks to an intelligence linked to his brain size. Similarly, despite our species lacking speed, strength, fur, fangs and claws, our species dominates much bigger, faster, stronger and ferocious animals, thanks to an intelligence linked our brain size. Big brains evolved, because when your situation is disadvantaged, you must turn it around to your advantage and by you, I mean your brain. That’s the essence of who you are.

I know I cannot retake the power test. You get one try.
But I did review the problems on the titan test since I answered all the questions wrong on the powers test except for 1 (which gave me 116 SD 16) I think I got most of the titan vocab questions right but there is no vocab on the powers test. I know that comments like these can only make me sound even more arrogant and egotistical than I am, but it’s inconceivable to me that anyone capable of normal social functioning can score so low on the Test. Ignoring the psychometric data and considering only the items and raw scores, I don’t see how someone could miss so many items which seem so trivial to me and still be able to drive a car and fill out the paperwork at the doctor’s office. I usually find that all the problems on intelligence tests meant to measure people in the ‘normal’ range, say, 60/70 to 130/140, are all about equally easy, and wonder how this test can discriminate. If you can solve this trivial problem, how could you miss this trivial problem for any reason other than an uncharacteristic oversight?
I think the way the power test is designed you can guess some answers and be lucky to get a medium score.
I think a threshold exists. At 130 IQ people tend to be more careful. They check their answers. So are likely able to get a higher score than where they actually are at. You are supposed to spend 1 month on the test I spent two weeks on it.
I did so during a time when I was under stress (for more than a year) and was not able to review what I had done meticulously before submitting so I was impatient and low on energy. I was just trying to power through it. I can spend hours/days doing problems but get sleep deprived.
Some one said in an interview with Hoefflin or Chris Langan (cannot remember) that these test problems require some creativity to solve.
You do need more executive control, metacognition and all that to extend the basic limits of ones creativity.
So preporation is important.
I did not even think about having snack before doing some of the problems like they give you in school.

For many individuals: Chris Langan, Oprah, Marilyn Vos Savant all have very large brains/heads and all seemingly have high intelligence.
I’m pretty sure you see high musculature and athletic ability in certain individuals and associate that with their physical traits (maybe greater fast-twitch muscle, denser bones, tendon strength, better-trained CNS, etc). Yes I know what your point is, but brain size being correlated with real life problem-solving is not something people pulled out of their behinds. Adding to the wealth of empirical examples, size correlating to the strength of something is one of the foundational principles of physics. Size and strength are basically synonyms of each other from some perspectives, it’s just one value represented in different ways. (Obviously, with caveats for something as complex as the brain, just as with size and strength in athletics)

JUst to be clear to the autists and other readers, in western (and some east asians countries kind of), a very high Quant IQ is a goldmine or a gurantee of at least an upper middle class life.
Because:
(a) Its extremely rare (supply and demand)

I’m just an irregular reader of the blog, but I sympathize with your situation. A lot of it is the 21st century. In the past, the cost of living was lower, so you read about a lot of people who would just live frugally and work on their projects as an amateur.
Paul Erdos died in 1996, but even someone as talented could not live how he lived because things are too expensive now. Also, there used to be more community, which helped out a lot.
But that being said, I think it would be good if you could find some kind of work. I’m not trying to be one of those people who give advice just to say something. Sometimes people online have these schemes about making a bunch of money from x, y, or z. I’m not saying that because stuff like that always takes a lot of luck.
But if you could find a employment, probably a small business that just needs people (so you don’t have to deal with an HR department) and where you can get along with the people and enjoy the work, that would be beneficial.
Of course, everybody has to figure things out as an individual; I’m not wealthy or a professional in an intellectual field and there is a lot I don’t know, so I’m not claiming to be an expert. But one thing I have learned is that even though the Internet can be beneficial, ultimately, real life is more important.

Why do big brains have more spatial intellignece?
I think it has to do with the vision system.
Not only can you see more, you can understand what would happen if things went in other directions.
From my new calculation if you are 4 foot 4 you get negative IQ just because brain volume is imprecise way of calculating it.
So if a perfect ratio of height to brain volume existed we would see that a person at 6 foot 3 has enough brain matter to be IQ 150.
Also if a perfect ratio existed my brain volume would equate to IQ 90 by height. I think my brain is bigger than my height suggests but I cannot know right now.

The architecture of the brain changes with size.
Homo erectus had the visual system to make stone tools but not combine them. To combine tools you need to think about the shape of tools coming together. Then you have the human ability to ask questions. Homo erectus could “think” about where to catch food but not ask hypotheticals like what happens if it rains and I need to get food tomorrow. This requires a longer more complex phonetic loop.
So how does this apply to intelligence?
Well if you consider IQ tests, on them the spatial and speed/memory sections. They require you to get a configuration in the order that fits a pattern. Why is this important? because technology requires you to do lots of patterns and basically making technology is what humans do best. And that requires understanding shapes and sequences.
What happens when the brain is bigger?
You can see more shapes fitting together on average.
Or you could have better memory for your brain to work together.
Remembering where things are is important to do stuff intelligent.
Some people say we humans are all the same at intelligence but we are not. Some say culture is all that maters to intelligence because intelligence is only knowledge as in memorization. But memorization will not help you do novel tasks like putting shapes of things together in the right way to get some advanced goal done. And since some people believe memorization is only about rule following is only and all people can do, this diminished what smart people can do by themselves. But people are not trained monkeys, you do not get computers or other advanced tech from trained monkeys. You get it from people that can see what to do to create things never created before. Otherwise many things would not exist that do exist, cars, space ships, quantum computers. Average people do not invent these things. They come from more intelligent humans that see more not just know more.
So if more intelligent humans exist we must conclude this is not 100% cultural. Because then everyone could make new theories and inventions. They do not. Only some do. Some kids can program computers by age 10 better than bill gates did. Not because of special books but because they saw the computer and reverse engineered it. Some people never can do that.
If smart people exist then a reason exists.

The thalamus is like a dimmer switch.
It controls how much information from the senses come in.
So my eyes may be filtered through the thalamus to have less information and is why I have trouble seeing details.
This could be genetic because receptors control how sensitive the thalamus reacts to GABA
The temporal lobe then is not getting enough information to see objects.
Other things could be happening with me as well.
I never had a brain scan but I know they are very avanced today.

I speculate the complexity of the brain will allow us to truly understand what is happening. We may find that a single score of g is distributed not as we thought it was?

At a population level poly genetic score 14% explained we can predict how many people will have an education attainment with 95% confidence of plus minus 5.24 years of where sub score actually fall with the genes showing an effect size.
On the individual level this becomes plus minus 25.4 years from where a single person would fall. With a baseline of 14 years completed on average for one group sample. Negative education attainment is bellow this before a person is born. Which I disbelieve is possible.
On the individual level poly scores cannot predict education attainment. At the population level we need a large sample to make predictions within a range.
Noise is the cause of this math anomaly and is called the wilson effect.
In my limited amount of research I found that willpower is mediated by theta rhythms in the thalamic ACC regions. Theta modulates and resets gamma synchrony by gating receptors. The ACC is what people use for attending to the inner conditions of the matching up between intended actions and their immediate results.
If we pay attention to errors the ACC channel theta waves into the frontal cortex to update what we do. It actively learns to detect errors and make adjustments to gamma synchrony from the thalamus.
This could be affected by neural plasticity. Any genes that allow greater learning would impact this dynamic as genes do create various sensitivity towards neurotransmitters by their variants.

Adaptation cannot fully express the true definition of intelligence. Anything can adapt if the situation is simple enough. In the case of intelligence this has to do with complexity. People can avoid complex situations to survive but it is only those that understand what they must do that they can “adapt” to new situations.
Cave men did not need to invent clothes or tools to adapt to cold weather. They could have stayed in the warm weather. Only those who could make the tools had the intelligence to know that these items would help themselves survive and support a tribe. Their brains then had to be more complex to see those consequences.
Adaptation regarding intelligence is useful for extending ones capabilities. This requires the individual to have a greater executive function. Or they cannot make decisions that are advantageous.
Therefore intelligence is not adapting per say to get what you need.
Intelligence is having the executive control to survive/thrive in complex environments for humans.
Decisions that must be made has everything to do with complexity not adaptability to simple situations and simple environments.
Anything can adapt if the situation is simple enough.
But my chemistry teacher’s definition defines adapt as “take WHATEVER situation you’re in and turn it around to your advantage.” If you can only adapt to simple situations, then you can’t turn whatever situation you’re in around to your advantage to any high degree.

Intelligence is your ability to adapt whatever situation you’re in to your advantage but having more intelligence itself can cause a more difficult situation to adapt to because you might become aware of how much life sucks or too advanced to relate to normal people or simply because your head becomes too big that you look like a freak, but here we need to conceptually distinguish between intelligence as your ability to adapt to situations and intelligence as part of the situation you’re in. In other words, the function vs the properties needed to build it.
