On the other hand Daniel Seligman was likely a libertarian (based on his criticism of David Wechsler’s grasp of economics) and he was anything but autistic. He was the most lucid written word communicator I’ve ever seen in the HBD-o-sphere and I highly recommend his book to newbies who want a crash course on the whole IQ debate.. On the other hand he was Jewish so may have had ethnic reasons for being libertarian.

No one ever claimed the IQ-money correlation was high; it’s analogous to the correlation between height and fighting ability. On average height gives you an advantage in a fight but there are tons of short roid monsters who can obliterate tall bean-polls.
But we’d be extremely suspicious of IQ tests if there was no correlation between IQ and money because intelligence is your ability to adapt.

It implies “all rich people should score higher in IQ test and all poor people should score lower”. The quotations you have shown support the notion that cognitive skills are linked to job performance and that the link between grades and job performance has been getting weaker over time, which lends itself as being agreeable to the whole notion of college grade inflation (and the declining utility of college grades as well).

Ken Richardson’s refutations in the linked paper involve him citing himself a whole lot. He comments more so on IQ-education in that paper. In particular this book “Genes, Brains, and Human Potential: The Science and Ideology of Intelligence”. I am not going to spend 30+ dollars checking his claims there. Another common citation he makes is “Psychological Correlates of University Students’ Academic Performance:
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”. Ken uses this particular citation to claim that “Finally, there is considerable evidence that correlations may be attributable to non‐cognitive factors, such as self‐confidence, which again reflect social background”, however that doesn’t seem to be a nuanced take, and the paper actually says this: “Univariate analyses revealed that demographic and psychosocial contextual factors generated, at best, small correlations with GPA. Medium-sized correlations were observed for high school GPA, SAT, ACT, and A level scores. Three non-intellective constructs also showed medium-sized correlations with GPA: academic self-efficacy, grade goal, and effort regulation. A large correlation was observed for performance self-efficacy, which was the strongest correlate (of 50 measures) followed by high school GPA, ACT, and grade goal. ”
This means that most social factors that are proposed as alternatives to the Standardized tests/GPA/IQ-related stuff have a smaller impact, and only a few psychological the factors, all revolving around self-efficacy had a moderate (in three cases) to large impact (in one case). So him clinging on to that one thing also reflects his own bias, maybe he could have acknowledged the moderate correlations with the things he is attacking and also acknowledge that the correlations for most other social factors were low. Broadly, this guy seems to point out issues in accuracy and methodology which is nice but then uses it as a wrench to insert in his own social theories and avoids mentioning low correlates in those regards.

@RR Yes, I have read the paper, not just the abstract, correlation for all variables except for one of them (self-efficacy) were well below 0.5. The medium correlates were around 0.3 in that particular paper (this includes the other efficacy group, as well as GPA/SAT group) and psychosocial correlates were well below 0.3. The latter can’t be ignored.

Correlation of 0.7 for FSIQ in twins reared apart would imply a high heritability. For comparison the paper lists a correlation of 0.86 for height.
