9:52-in the 90s they find out shocking truth by reading about a secret study! the real reason they were separated was scientific research. psychologists would spy on them and visit their house to give them IQ tests and film them! adoptive parents were told only that they were part of a study of adopted kids, but never told the real reason was it was a heritability study . Austrian holocaust refugee named peter heading study, ordered identical siblings to be separated and then watched and tested. results of study kept top secret.
10:10 pm__peter’s research assistant defends study, saying that in the 1950s and 60s it was consider okay to separate identical siblings. she was shocked to learn how heritable traits are.
10:19 pm __ all three brothers were mentally ill in their teens.
10:29 pm___eddy grows a beard, starts calling old friends he hasn’t spoken to in years at 2 am, and then shoots himself. david and bobby are devastated.
10:34 pm- dr. peter claimed study was funded by private charities and washington. 66 boxes of archives sealed at yale university until 2066. only way to access them is through the extremely powerful jewish board of family and children services. Adopted kids phone the board but are just transferred from one department to another without getting answers.
11:00 pm—as a result of this documentary, a 1000 pages of study released, but all the relevant info was redacted. some participants in the study may still not know they’re twins, that could be why study can’t be published.

Maybe ethical standards had changed so much that they couldn’t release the study without looking bad, or maybe it was never intended for public consumption in the first place; only the the NY elite would get the truth while everyone else was sold the nurture myth.
I think they would have published the results if it supported the nurture view. Of course that methodology can cause false positives to be published more than expected, but everyone pulls tricks in the social sciences.
Also regarding the ethical standards, I have heard there was a trend to separate twins in school, as late as the 60s or 70s. It happened to a relative of mine. I think schools thought twins would be hurt by constantly being thought of as one half of a pair instead of as a unique person. The twins needed to develop an independent identity. I think it’s stupid though.

But the difference is, diets really do change weight, however briefly. The effect is real as proven by the fact that it shows up on all weight scales and predicts real world outcomes like the ability to sit on a plane and the ability to walk up stairs without shortness of breath. By contrast gains on psychometric tests are limited to only to the type of tests used in the intervention. For example in the Milwaukee study, there was an increase in Binet scores but it didn’t translate into higher scholastic achievement scores given at the same time. In the Minnesota transracial adoption study, there was an increase in scholastic achievement, but it didn’t translate into higher WAIS scores. In short, the gains are domain specific but hollow with respect to g. The treatment group is never as smart as those members of the control group who have the same nominal scores at the same time. By contrast people on diets are just as thin as non-dieters with the same nominal weight.

For example, if you discover depressive tendecies in the triplet, you could try to be neutral with one, to be very supportive with another one, and to dry to drawn the third one.
