Sorry for the delayed open thread (they’re normally posted every Sunday) but I’ve been extremely busy. If all goes well (keep your fingers crossed) I’ll be leading the opening of a new office, and have been busy hiring local staff, finding an apartment that’s close to work, all while trying to get citizenship or at least a visa. Nothing like moving to a different location to test your ability to adapt. It tests social IQ (learning the etiquette of a different culture), verbal IQ (ability to rapidly learn a new language), spatial IQ (ability to find your way around), math IQ (converting currencies).
Can’t wait to test the locals, and I’m creating the first truly culture reduced test of conceptual ability.
And apologies for not posting about the GRE or sex differences yet since I was too busy to post any main articles last week, but I’ll likely get to it this week (if the username who asked me to post about it is still around)

Before high school, my mom called the police on me all the time for fighting with my brother. The first two years of High school I was in foster care. My brother still has ADHD problems. I have anxiety problems from failing a lot. I played some video games but not as much as my brother. Cognitive control, frontal lobes overwhelmed by (anxiety) and feeling defeated is why I have been in the mental health system 11 years. I had really bad psychosis, not control over my life, shutting down was the only option.

A neurologist I spoke to at the gym gave me a Gestalt Test, apparently very well known. I see it as a kind of award for what some schizophrenic persons bring to the world (cheers Philo!).
It appears that most people fall under a visual illusion except the one percent scizophrenics who see the object as it is really is (its form and its real movement).
The illusion (and absence of it) is the consequence of the cortex framing (or not) the data with the usual expectations (faces are always convex, not concave).
Besides Schizo, there is a second exception, , 10 times smaller, 1 per thousand person, who are first victim of the illusion, but then immediately, realized it’s an illusion, and can choose to block it. I fall into this category (I believe thanks to the concept of mask reframing my expectations) and it’s pretty cool to be able to stop the illusion and then go back. It’s even more fun than the Christ picture !
I gave it to many people around me, and there is no schizo, and no weirdo, everyone fall into the illusion.
Funny. The first time it rotated I saw the back of the mask and then almost like another mask coming from left to right. The second time onwards I only saw protruding faces.
The illusion consists on seing two masks rotating in opposing direction. Once you see the hollow face, your eyes make it protruding and then change direction .
The real thing is a mask with once face and the other side with the same face but hollowed. It turns only in one direction (from right to left, anti clockwise)

Yes, Feenopy, if you see only the inside hollow part of the mask (concav form) and you don’t see a protruding face, you belong to a group of less than 1% people and have 60% chances of being schizophrenic and/or a neuro atypical, because for the rest of us, the brain frame your perception into seeing a face (convex). It happens to be the real thing, but almost nobody can see it that way. I belong to an even smaller group who can see it both ways. So I understand why you would have a strong reaction on this. At the same time, the other 99% would have a hard time to accept that the mask is not protruding even if they are wrong. They are the immense majority. Because our brain has learnt that faces aren’t concave ever.

Thriller is a great pop album. It is still influential. More influential than the Doors or Pink Floyd on the art form.
Another problem with The Doors and Pink Floyd is that they sound dated.

Monk was the greatest exponent of bebop, it’s greatest composer, and it’s most perfect embodiment. It’s unfortunate that Charlie Parker and Dizzy overshadowed Monk, since he was way more of an original/eccentric character. And contrary to the racist stereotypes of the time, Monk had a deep knowledge of the classics, and enjoyed playing Rachmaninoff and Ravel in his personal life.
If you think Monk’s noisy, though, then you must be neophyte to jazz. Late-period Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, Eric Dolphy are WAY further out. Even I personally find it retarded. I’d sooner listen to Schoenberg or Webern or some modernist crap like that.

There’s a spectrum to all this, of course. Somebody, even in their 70s or 80s, who was born in Italy and lived in the US can still be understood in Italy. I think the main reason pop music criticism/discussion seems so empty/vacuous/silly nowadays is that there hasn’t been a single musical artist who exemplified the entire Zeitgeist since the early 1990s. The conclusion is that they map the entire planet down to the psychology of every person. But they must have an overall hierarchy in place to recursively increase the resolution of the earth map. The feedback system reduced errors and it is federated. State, local Federal is an example of the USA government system. The feedback system works the same way but many times more layers. So any action that is traceable or detectable or recorded is funneled into the model of the earth. This means gigabytes of data from a persons past is recorded and used to map them. This is no surprise as Facebook is a big source of data to the agencies. The data is messy but is organized by their systems.
They can gauge your personality, your intelligence, and affiliations. Predict you in several scenarios. This is for classifications in many categories and threat assessment. Their whole purpose is threat assessment and they need t be mathematically precise in all their simulations. A simulated person is the first step. Constant adjustment feedback with the world to make it more and more accurate. The internet is full of information for free they use. Once they know your threat level and they have the predictive models they can take action. But cost and manpower are limited they have outsourced o other agencies. Another thing is they only act in the self-interest of the United States outside the country by different standards non US citizens.
It is most likely they know what you do on a daily basis and know with a percentage of accuracy what you will buy, eat, travel to. And your temperament. You could be a person of interest without being a threat. Their psychology on you shows how you influence the system, you may affect it more significantly than other people. They can backtrack most all event as they are now working on historical simulations beginning with the 20th century.
In the future, the resolution of the historical and present-day simulation will only increase in resolution accuracy. New discoveries from history and better math tools will accelerate the feedback loop. A matter of time before the simulation is photorealistic and has simulated people from hundreds of years ago. There’s no telling if we ourselves are simulated people.

I thought it was 2 sd for the 70-75 yo category/graduate but not sure …. Knowing that older test scores are deflated because the average test taker is probably more intelligent (dumber die or have dementia in higher proportion) .
Bruno, I simply don’t believe the score can be trusted. It was released to the public right at the time the Michael Wolf book was implying Trump had dementia so there was a strong political incentive for Trump to counter that narrative and Trump has a long history of exaggerating his IQ, his net worth, his TV ratings, etc. Also, the test can be found on the internet so even if the doctor was not pressured to give Trump a high score, Trump could have seen the questions ahead of time. And the fact that he scored perfect is also suspicious. Even very smart people can miss at least one easy item through bad luck.
