I was playing a video game and thinking at the same time about central banking. So I did a bit of research over the past half hour on central banking and found out now no country in the world does not have a central bank or has a currency pegged to a fiat currency (with the overthrow of Iraq, Syria).
Theres a book I have on my to do list called the Creature of Jeykll Island which purports to explain how a syndicate of private individuals blackmailed Woodrow Wilson into creating in effect a giant counterfeit operation.
So I read up on the Chinese central bank and soviet one because I wanted to see if the Pigs were really the capitalists and basically assumed counterfeiting powers when they came to power. It seems these countries still did fiat currency as far as I can tell under ‘hardcore’ eras of communism under Mao and Stalin respectively.

Anyways, back to the main topic, Ive always suspected that central banks are actually a way of maintaining a de facto hereditary aristocracy in most nations as with or without the governing bodies knowledge, I suspect funny money is printed to private individuals for whatever they want. They probably have an agreement Id imagine not to do anything ridiculous like buy every single football club….
And fiat money is basically enslavery when you can make someone do anything with infinite amounts of it.
The foundation of the bank was part of the implementation of the New Economic Policy. On 3 October 1921, the All-Russian Central Executive Committee (VTsIK), passed a resolution for the founding of the State bank of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. Gosbank did not act as a commercial bank in regard to the profit motive. It acted, theoretically, as an instrument of government policy. Instead of independently and impartially assessing the creditworthiness of the borrower, Gosbank would provide loan funds to favored individuals , groups and industries as directed by the central government.
Anyways, sometimes doesn’t sit right with me. In Mankiws economics textbook, he describes fractional reserve banking they way you’d think the system should operate. But some of you have mentioned a central bank literally prints money from nothing to do whatever it wants basically and isn’t just a lender of last resort or a price setter of money.
And here the communists basically have central bank that sounds exactly like the Federal Reserve or Bank of England, except these institutions are theoretically independent from central government.
I have to think if you have a tool that allows you to do anything to anyone by waving paper at them, you would take the tool and use it intuitively.
Some contradictions to my views:
1. Some central banks really are accountable to the ‘people’ – although most are “independent” whatever the fuck that means.
2. It rarely comes up as a topic in other things I read about power and political manoeuvring. So maybe it is a bureaucratic functionary after all.
3. I’ve never worked for a central bank, but I have worked for a regulator and I can safely say these bodies are not ‘independent’ from political interference from elected representatives…which is a good thing to me.
4. I don’t want to spend time but surely most central banks are audited?
Otherwise what I’d expect is that elites band together to create a central bank to control the populace under some sort of agreement not to print tons of money to convert into other elites funny money and order their slaves around.

yes. what i know is the fed. the fed is half private/half public. this is odd.
theoretically the fed matches its money printing with assets. it has a balance sheet like any other business. but in reality money printing/lowering interest rates is a yuge transfer of wealth to the already rich. it doesn;t show up in consumer inflation, because the rich don’t consume much more than the poor, except in real estate.
fractional reserve banking is much older than central banks. it originated in northern italy more than 400 years ago. it used to be every bank issued its own currency. this is a problem, though some libertarians wish this was still the way things were done.
imagine prices being posted for every bank. or just for large banks. how much does that cost in US Bank dollars? in Wells Fargo dollars? in Chase dollars? it’s stupid. much more efficient is, how much does that cost in Fed dollars?
if all these bank notes are fungible with gold then the price would just be in gold, but maybe some businesses would insist on a haircut from certain banks.
If Putin wanted to – couldn’t he just tell the russian central bank governor to print 2b and put it into a Caymans bank account?

The Peoples Bank of China seems similar to the soviet bank.
It makes me think maybe governments around the world are all duped into adopting a fiat money system and theres some sort of ‘hole’ or ‘weakness’ the the computing systems they use to “print” credit that allows select individuals to take money at will.
At the end of the day you have to reason why a fiat system is objectively better than a sound money system. And the academic research is said to be ‘ambigious’ on this topic in wikipedia.

“Common sense” should probably be more strictly defined as the ability to use Ockham’s razor and inductive reasoning in concert to predict future behaviour. It’s an entirely legitimate discursive and critical approach.
People rejecting it in favour of book-long explanations of why this academic or that has denied reality in favour of a razor-circumventing explanations, are failing to use the most effective critical heuristics available to them. Either they’re extraordinarily gullible, with weak thinking skills, or they’re being bilked.
My money is that people are systematically being bilked, not because of a top-down conspiracy but because those on the hard-left in particular are in denial about the failure of their economic and social programmes. Convincing a new generation to repeat their error, the definition of insanity.
Further further further: A thought on adaptation, whilst one may have the ability to adapt, adaptation requires effort and willpower, many a time I have wondered why a competent and able individual in one field cannot transfer this to another, I think the magnitude of the undertaking overwhelms them and the prerequisite determination is something that fails them.
This is something like training someone out of their habits. I’ll probably have more thoughts on it later, if I post here within the month again.
Why do you use “common sense” only to refer to social intelligence? Ive encountered highly educated people (who I’m sure had triple digit IQs — some were in successful careers) who struggled with simple tasks lile turning on a microwave, reverse parking a medium-sized sedan, and sorting clothes to be put in a washing machine.

Yeah, it’d be interesting to see cultural differences in common sense. I suspect that people who have the highest common sense seem to have the longest longevity in life or benefit from capitalist society. It’s funny because capitalist society seems to reinforce eugenics on a mass scale, build niches for people, promote diversity, yet there are still people who hate on it. It’s surprising because capitalism is like its very own ecosystem.
Also, what does one think of average IQs of different civilizations? Does anyone believe that all advanced societies have the same IQs? These are important questions to ask ourselves if we want to establish a mentally/physically healthy society that can perform to its utmost ability.

If Marx had never existed I believe ideas such as workers unions would have developed independently of his greater, poisonous ideology and it’d be a normal part of the generally accepted economics.
Marx’s broader ideology is the reason the few good elements of his Philosophy find difficulty intergrating themselves into our economic system. Libertarians and reactionaries are deathly afraid of public spending and wage-bargaining precisely because they know it’s giving ground to political opposition.
I often find myself thinking that in the Medieval era a King might have found himself investing the treasury into various projects which would be profitable in the future, and to him this wasn’t “Liberal” or “Socialist”, it was common sense. Had economics kept developing in that vein, rather than having been divided between economic Conservatism and Marxism in its various incarnations, we’d probably have a much more well-administered economy today.
Succinctly, the birth of Marx marked the downfall of the few good ideas he had.
