I finally watched this movie!
I don’t know why it took me so long because I love Emma Thompson, I love Mindy Kaling, and I love TV talk show hosts, and this movie combines all three.
The film is about a brilliant British late night talk show host named Katherine (Emma Thompson) who is being fired from her job because declining ratings. Adding insult to injury, she is being replaced by a lower class low IQ male comic who relishes in vulgar bathroom fraternity boy humour, much like our very own Mug of Pee. Desperate to save her show from being taken over by such trash, she orders her assistant to hire a woman to provide a fresh perspective, and in comes Molly (Mindy Kaling). The white male writing team is appalled that Indian American Molly went from working at a chemical factory to writing for a major late night talk show.
“I wish I was a woman of color so I could get any job with no qualifications!” one of them bitterly says behind her back. But little do they know Molly is the perfect person for the job!
The film is kind of predictable and the characters are a little underdeveloped, but the dialogue is sharp and funny and Thompson and Kaling shine in their respective parts,. Now available on Netflix:

It’s not about whether or not the knee on his neck killed him, it’s whether it would have killed him had Floyd not been on fentanyl and sick with covid, and the method of restraint was apparently a valid and taught one for the Minneapolis PD. If you’re going to accuse someone of homicide you have to actually prove their actions were intended to cause homicide.
I think we can all agree that Floyd basically dug his own grave with his life choices.
I doubt the tape was fake, but what is definitely true is that way too much evidence has been either withheld or misconstrued in basically all of the major BLM related cases. Kind of makes you paranoid in general.

I wonder why height is correlated positively with IQ but robustness isn’t. Obviously, the stress on organs is a problem with a large body and if you have a larger/faster brain it’s going to require more work from your organs. So a smaller body would be a good offset for a larger brain (but of course, where do those organs go in a smaller body)? But mainly I wonder why height, which has to fight against gravity, would be easier on a body than growing sideways.
A hilarious possibility is that the height added by a larger brain is simply what causes all the correlation between height and IQ. So someone with the exact same body but a brain an inch taller (which would imply obviously the other dimensions are bigger) would be many SDs more intelligent, thereby creating a small measured correlation overall.

There is some tradeoff. Muscles are expensive to build, though their maintenance is negligible in comparison, the fact that muscular system adapts both with hypertrophy (and hyperplasia) when sufficient stimulus is applied, and is subjected to atrophy whenever there’s insufficient stimulus for muscle maintenance, implies muscles are in some how expensive. If there’s energy that could be used to build muscle, that’s energy that’s being taken away from the brain.
This is a very long winded way of saying muscles are expensive but so is the nervous system. Humans did get bigger but we’re not as strong as our recent ancestors.
I think it’s a mistake to assume the ability of visceral organs to work in general limits a healthy person’s cognitive ability. Our ability to acquire nutrients is important, and organs do provide that, but any sort of restraint on organ size is more to do with what’s being put into our systems. If it’s a steady source of calorie and nutritionally dense food, then overall gut length could be lessened, that’s less organic material our body’s have to work to maintain and feed, and more resources that could be put into systems that could give us a evolutionary advantage. Just look at hummingbirds, with their rapid beating hearts (and tiny size, which also supports/forces a faster heart rate anyway) to see what I mean. Their energy isn’t being funneled into fueling the brain, but instead into the flapping of their wings, but it’s still a similar comparison.
It’s less the case that visceral organ size allows for increased intellectual ability, but instead that general mass just tags a larger brain around, probably due to biological restraints related to absolute size being more advantageous than supremely efficient use of resources. Even disregarding biological restraints, more mass means more resources that could be supplied to various structures.
The direct answer for why we didn’t just grow wider, instead gained height, outside of reasons related to predation, is that longer stride lengths lets an animal move around faster. The fact that women have wider pelvises than men points to something, something not wholly related to the fact that women give birth. It’s not entirely related to stride length, women make up for their short legs and wide hips by simply taking longer strides, but instead related to thermoregulation restraints. Narrow hips increase the surface area to volume ratio, allowing for more heat to be dumped out, for related reasons this is one of the reasons neanderthals took to the strategy of being wide, muscular, and probably fat. Although muscularity allows for more efficient shivering, cold environments select for muscular animals regardless of whether it’s particularly useful outside of shivering.
