Something that never gets mentioned in the economics news and academia is the effect of how the EU expanded into eastern europe in 2004 and something like 100m eastern europeans migrated to western europe.
While some or many eastern europeans have equivalent IQs to westerners they were a lot poorer and more desperate to work. The effect of the great migration west was probably to suppress wages for workers, raise housing and infrastructure costs and generally lower living standards for many westerners.

Having a high IQ is just like what Warren Buffet said – advantageous for the first time in history in the 20th century and even then only in certain countries in certain circumstances. Most of the time it wasn’t a big advantage. In fact maybe half the time it was a disadvantage if you also had autism or low testosterone to go with it which is very common for people with high IQs.
Neuroticism is another thing you get with high IQs sometimes.
