“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.
“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.”

Also I don’t think she’s going get anywhere with that message. The Dems would be making a fatal error if they go with Clinton again. In fact i don’t see that party winning another election unless there is a significant reform and they drop the looney left and the “activists” and get back to their real base the center to center left. Not enough time to do that by 2020 but maybe they have a shot for 2024 provided they get started now.
Hilary was the ‘centre’/’centreleft’ candidate. She lost. They would have beat trump is sanders wasnt cheated out of the nomination.
The only chance the dems have is to either run someone like Joe Biden or run a Sanders really economic leftwing populist candidate. The internet is out there, ‘centrist’ establishment puppets like El jebbe and the Clintons are toast if they dont rig it again.
Agreed, the Dems have lost the plot completely in the last few years. Bernie was alright(far more preferable to Clinton) but looking at what the regressive left has turned into I think it’s probably a good thing Bernie didn’t make it.

Afghanistan war is debatable but Iraq was a huge mistake. I just hope the neocons don’t get to Trump. So far so good but if he wins another term, there’s six years and anything could happen.
The neocons are working like crazy to get Trump to attack Iran. Getting him to tear up the Iran nuclear deal was the first step.
So does being good on foreign policy(debatable) mean that she would also be a good overall president? I mean she’s smart and all, seems to have a good head on her shoulders but the presidency is a whole different kettle of fish. The learning curve she would have to get on would be mind boggling and something tells me she’s not remotely sufficiently politically inclined or motivated.

For some reason I don’t see Trump going that route. He has talked about adding economic pressure on Iran until they buckle and come back to the table for another deal. It seems to me Trump’s legacy is going to be hugely based on undoing Obama’s legacy and replacing it with his own and possibly NK if all goes well. So I don’t think that he’s remotely a neocon and he’s too savvy to allow the neocons to bully him into making the same mistakes Bush made.

Even though [redacted by pp, nov 23, 2018] I would vote for Sanders ahead of any other person in the dem party. But if sanders and trump were the only choices, I still favour Trumpy. In many ways with Obama I got all the good policy stuff. Even on US Israeli relations, Obama was 10 times better than the last 5-6 presidents. (of course Nixon was excellent on this issue too).
I hope Terry Tao and his quantum computing friend write a joint op ed in the NYT about why all smart people are going to vote for Hilary. I would love that. Id print it out and hang it on my wall.
