As part of my research for an imminent article on commenter Bruno’s IQ, I decided to try to norm brief little test he took which was posted by commenter Mug of Pee. The test requires you to correctly perceive what’s in each of the following images. Unfortunately the test was too easy to say much about someone as brilliant as Bruno but most people find it challenging , so try it on yourself for fun before looking at the answers and scoring which are located way below the four images:

Scoring
Item 1: If you correctly identified this as a giraffe, you get 1 point. If you identified it as some other striped or spotted mammal like a cheetah, a leopard (including panther), or a zebra, you get 0.5 points. Preliminary research shows that somewhere between 93% to 100% of white adults can get at least half-credit on this item, and 86% can get full credit.
Item 2: If you correctly identified this as a dog, you get 1 point. If you identified it as some other four legged mammal like a pig, you get 0.5 points. Preliminary research shows that 36% of white adults can get at least half-credit on this item, and 29% can get full credit.
Item 3: If you correctly identified this as a man on a horse, you get 1 point. If you could only see a horse but not the man on it, you get 0.5 points. Preliminary research shows that 29% of white adults can at least get half-credit while only 14% can get full credit. No credit for seeing a man but not a horse.

Norms
My stats for this test are based on the fact that earlier this month, I tried this test on a relatively random sample of 14 white adults in different parts of Ontario.
Their scores out of 4 listed from highest to lowest were: 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2.5, 2, 2, 1.5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 0.5. The mean was 1.64 and the population standard deviation was 0.95. Using the mean and SD, any raw score can be converted to a Z score and Z scores can be converted to IQ equivalents by multiplying the Z score by 15 and adding 100, but don’t take the results too seriously because this test is way too short and simplistic to be meaningful and I’m not a professional.
But for entertainment purposes only, here are what the IQ equivalents would be:
Raw score 0 = IQ 74 or lower (borderline mental retardation)
Raw score 0.5 = IQ 82 (Dull)
Raw score 1 = IQ 90
Raw score 1.5 = IQ 98 (Average)
Raw score 2 = IQ 106
Raw score 2.5 = IQ 114 (Bright)
Raw score 3 = IQ 121 (Borderline Genius)
Raw score 3.5 = IQ 129
Raw score 4 = IQ 137+ (Mild Genius)

Strange, I scored a 3.5. However in a sit down IQ test with a Psychologist I scored a 109 IQ. Wechsler says I have a high verbal IQ as high as 89th percentile and a low performance IQ, as low as 39th percentile.

1. The 4th question gives an unfair advantage to people like me who were raised christian.
People who don’t come from my background or have never lived in a predominately christian country could not answers that question.

I think this test is too short to be useful. Last item isn’t great because all the previous ones had animals so I spotted a parrot sitting on a branch and finished. Maybe I rushed through it. I just had lunch today with 4 friends, they all did between 1 and 1,5. I told them it was more of a personality test than an IQ test, third answer difficult for autistic people and fourth easier. I won’t repeat the experience, because i felt embarassed for people i like. It’s like speaking about weigh with an obese person. I said i had 2 right answers.
Perhaps it was more difficult because i ve got a small mobile and the screen is not very clear. I’m sure they all have more than 100 IQ (1 lawyer, 1 computer scientist and 2 teachers of french language).

I ran this test with a bunch of top of their class Ivy League people, nobody scored above a 2. Weirdly we all independently saw image two as an alligator in a bog.

Gs, i’ve tried the image in a restaurant, with people i didn’t know, because there was no emotion involved. Average was 1,5. I tested it on 30 people and the second best scorer had 2,5 (the best had 3,5). It was in a posh area of Paris (7th arrondissement) and people were mosty students. Normally, with a 1 sd, they sould have been 5 people above 2,5. Nevetherless, having one person 3,5 out of 30 people was normal. Results from Pumpkin readership – if peope are trustworthy – means an average IQ of 128 and a mean IQ of 125 (just guessing). Well done Pumpkin ! That’s a testimony of the quality of your blog.

In terms of intelligence, i would say for the candidates i’ve listened to – not much because i prefer american politics now – we have in decreasing order, Cheminade, Melenchon, Fillon, Asselineau, Le Pen. Then far lower, you have Macron and Hamon, the most stupid.
For Macron, it’s really incredible because he graduated from ENA. Then intelligence is far from being the most important factor.

It’s really hard to tell a candidate’s level of intelligence because they have advisers telling them what to do. But if I had to rank them I’d say:
1- Jean-Luc Mélenchon: Very witty, incredible knowledge and cultural references. But more importantly, he doesn’t say what people want to hear and he is able to be be very pedagogical when explaining his most questionable proposition. He’s the only candidate who makes me learn things when I listen to him.
2- Emmanuel Macron: He’s definitely one smart cookie but he has to be bland and consensual to attract right wing as well as left wing moderates so obviously his method is to say things most people will agree on and that will anger nobody, which actually means not a lot. But I see he’s smart in the way he manages to come off as extremely sure about what he has in mind in debates and shut his opponent’s mouths although it is obvious that his program is hollow.
3- François Fillon: smart guy, typical Western France upper class dude. I know some of his children, nieces and nephews personally. Don’t wanna tell too much about him, he’s been through enough trouble lately. His overall career has been more than admirable though, remember that he’s literally been the victim of Nicolas Sarkozy and yet managed to politically survive and beat him.
4- Nicolas Dupont-Aignan: Severely underrated, he deserves Le Pen’s leader of the far-right spot.
5- Le Pen: Scam artist, changes her mind according to what opinion polls say on different topics. Makes incredibly dumb political mistakes and can’t even hide her fascist friends. She used to be an excellent debater but she’s been so basic these last few weeks. I guess the show is over, it wasn’t that entertaining anyway.
6- Hamon: He’s so dumb and naive that it’s awkward.
