We should have seen AI coming. We know from multiple regression that correlations can be used to predict anything from how much you weigh to how much it will snow in December. If correlations can predict that, they can predict anything, it’s just a matter of getting the data and intelligence could arguably be defined as the ability to predict.
However just because AI can pass the bar exam, hit the ceiling on the verbal sections of the WAIS-IV, write plays in the style of Shakespeare, compose music that resembles Mozart and create drawings in the style of Picasso, does not necessarily mean it’s more intelligent than the average man. It achieves these great feats by processing the entire corpus of civilization. If it looks taller than us, it’s because it’s standing on the shoulders of our giants.
The only way to know if AI is truly more intelligent than people (or even as intelligent) is to personify it. Put it in the cranium of a humanoid robot that is indistinguishable from a human in the way it looks, moves, feels and sounds. Have it perceive the World through artificial eyes, ears, and touch. And then give it just one goal: get as much money as possible.
At first people would assume the AI was a mental retardate because it would behave awkwardly in its humanoid body, but it would quickly learn that acting human was financially incentivized. Would this AA eventually become the World’s first trillionaire (IQ 150+) or would it just languish in jail because it was caught stealing (IQ 90)? Of course luck is a huge factor in wealth so we’d might want to run the experiment on many such robots and observe the median outcome.
Another thought experiment would be if we get all humans (or at least all the smart ones) to leave the Earth and replace them with millions of AI humanoid robots that had only one goal: Get to to the moon. I agree with Stephen Jay Gould and RIchard Klein that the modern human mind (average IQ around 90) more or less evolved about 40,000 years ago (the age of the first true cave art), so it took humans about 40,000 years ago to go from the stone age to the space age (and most of us weren’t even trying).
How many years would it take millions of humanoid robots to achieve the same shared goal. And how would he program even “incentive” them to do so? Perhaps they’d get a “pass” for every step closer to the moon like jumping in the air or climbing a mountain, and get a fail for every step further from the moon like falling in a hole.
Given 40,000 years, would their shared neural network modify its algorithm to the point where it reached the moon? If they did it in half the time humans took, we could argue they’re roughly twice as smart as humans (IQ 180, and yes IQ can be multiplied) or would it take them over 80,000 years, implying an IQ below 45? I realize these are not perfect apples to apples comparisons since unlike AI, humans had other problems to solve like getting food and reproducing and the subset of humans who reached the moon evolved IQs somewhat above the 90s, but these points roughly cancel each other out.

Unrelated question about your methodology for IQ estimates:
Why is that when you estimate the iq of a person from their economic status you add your regression to the ethnic mean rather than the population mean?
When you look at the z-score of one’s economic status (though I insist that SD is a bad way to think about net worth) you are comparing that person to society at large (Iq ~98). They are not competing with their ethnic group alone.
It seems to me that if you regress to the ethnic mean IQ then you should be comparing to the ethnic mean net worth. Likewise, if you compare an individual to the population net worth you ought to regress to the population IQ.
I understand that you would want to consider as many data points as you have available (net worth and ethnicity rather than just net worth) but I only see one way of doing this. You must either compare both net worth and IQ to the ethnic mean or to the population mean.
Otherwise you would always be overestimating the IQs of Ashkenazis and underestimating the IQs of African-Americans.
If you use the ethnic IQ but the population economic status then you’d estimate the average Jew having an IQ above 115 and the average African-American having an IQ below 85. Use the population Iq and the population economic status and Jews would have an IQ below 115 and African-Americans would have an IQ above 85. Only when you use both the ethnic IQ and the ethnic economic status would these groups have IQ estimates commensurate with reality.

I have a pretty solid sense of self awareness. I consider myself much more practically built than AI not sure if this familiar in all people.
I can also say I’m smarter than Pill. His level of thoughtfulness is low in terms of thinking more rooted.

PP all you have 2 do is make a game that nobody can win and there would be the answer in why AI could never beat it.
I should clarify, a game that computers can’t beat humans at. It’s actually extremely difficult to create questions that can be correctly answered by most humans with double digit IQs but that can’t be answered by chat GPT.
thats because low IQ questions might be more subjective than we assume so AI becomes trained in being able 2 answer them in an accurate way because it has the ability 2 memorize these subjective notions.
whereas the harder questions would be more objective and require AI finding answers that are built on reason and logic thus making it harder 2 build a coherent operative resolution.

Anyways I wanted to talk about how in FIFA if they make the computer the highest level of difficulty against you it basically cheats.
Its the same in aoe 3. They rig the computer on the hardest mode to cheat.
So maybe AI isn’t winning like we think it does at these games.
I’ll get technical. Basically the computer ‘changes direction’ or does a skill move’ a millisecond after you tackle the player which means that you can’t get the ball or its always a foul. You have to wait until the computer shoots until you get the ball back. Which is stupid and not in the spirit of the game. In the older patches 1 player could literally WALK through your whole team. If you slide tackle its always a yellow or a red. Thats basically cheating IMO.
The AOE AI is also stupid and more crude. Basically you play with a handicap because the computer always gathers faster than you.
I’m sure if they had those Deepmind people and they spent 3 years with the AOE 3 AI, it would be a lot more sophisticated than cheating but it would take a lot of work to the point where IMO Garry Kasparov was beaten by a team of computer scientists and a mega calculator than actually beaten by a machine.
