Visiting Dublin for the first time. Very charming city. Locals are very chatty and friendly but seem nervous and tense about what is happening. Even Anderson, to her credit, admits cold winters select for intelligence, but then she argues this is an example of r selection since it’s not density dependent. But we know that selection for intelligence slows life history because a big brain takes so long to mature so her criticism lacked the internal logic needed to be convincing.
I mean, the fast/slow life history thing has been subject to rigorous critique, even recently, and Anderson argued how intelligence—along with many other of Rushton’s variables—can be r or K (see p. 57 of her response).
And yea, I think the Anderson article proved him wrong because he reversed r and K pressures, so even if they were valid and even if Rushton’s premises were valid, Rushton had it reversed.
