The psychological question of what makes people want to play casino games has never been too much of a mystery. Casino environments are basically built to give us little surges of adrenaline and dopamine. There are exciting sounds and visuals on gaming machines signifying victory; there’s a thrill in raking in a small stack of chips at a poker table, even if you’ve lost your previous 10 hands; somebody is always winning somewhere, effectively giving you continual previews of the joy and excitement you too could feel. The incentive, so to speak, is right there in front of you (or rather, all around you).
When it comes to sport and event betting, however, motivation and incentive are a little bit murkier. Next to casino play, this side of the gambling business is positively dull: casino sportsbooks are essentially more depressing versions of sports bars, and betting slips are about as bland to look at as grocery store receipts. Nothing jingles or flashes if you win, and you aren’t immediately gifted with colorful tokens representing your winnings. So what exactly makes people want to bet? We’re digging into some of the psychological motivators and reasons below.
The Same Old Reasons
There are actually some fairly academic looks into the psychology of sports betting, and really they turn up the same old reasons behind gambling that most of us are at least vaguely familiar with – the things that are somewhat foundational, impacting us before the excitement of a casino environment even comes into play. Most notably, it’s risk and reward. The risk of gambling produces adrenaline in and of itself; we almost inherently like putting something on the line and not knowing if it will pay off (though interestingly, men seem to enjoy this more than women, based on studies). As for reward, it’s fairly self-explanatory. We also enjoy gambling not because of the activity itself, but because we like the possibility of the rewards it could bring about. The most basic way to understand this psychology is just to think about why people keep buying lottery tickets – but it factors into sports betting as well.
Belief In Knowledge
With more specific regard to sports betting, there is also an element of the psychology that ties into people’s knowledge of the subject at hand. We tend to bet on sports (or events, politics, etc.) that we’re familiar with – that we think we know, and by extension, can predict. Studies have actually indicated that having greater knowledge of a given subject doesn’t necessarily correlate to more success betting, but that’s a hard thing for us to tell ourselves. If we feel like experts about something, we want to put that expertise to use in a practical, rewarding manner – just as we would in everyday life or with a work-related skill.
Game-Like Nature
More and more we’re also seeing betting twisted into something resembling a game, which in turn allows bettors to feel as if knowledge and skill are playing a role. It’s no accident that the budding online gambling culture in New Jersey is compared and in some cases directly tied to the existing daily fantasy sports industry in the U.S. Before betting legalization started, daily fantasy was effectively taking advantage of legal loopholes and allowing people to gamble on outcomes within the boundaries of fantasy sports. This is a game, to most people – one that we at least perceive is decided to some extent based on our skills, knowledge, and decisions. The more opportunities we have to bet in this fashion, the more likely competitive instincts are to come into play. Simply put, we bet because we feel like we’re just playing games we know how to win.
Desire To Improve
There is also an element of loss aversion present in the psychology of sports betting. It may not get us to start betting in the first place, but it can certainly get us to keep at it once we’ve started, just as it’s so often responsible for keeping someone sitting at a poker table for too long. The idea, for those who aren’t familiar, is simply that the pain of losing is greater than the joy of winning. We care more when we lose a bet than when we win one. And because losing is essentially inherently more likely in betting, we have an easy recipe for staying interested. The more bets we lose, the less we want to walk away, and the surer we become that the next one will be a winner.

The chance to win large sums of money while risking (relatively) little in return.
One of my buddies loves sports betting. Always doing parlays and whatever else.
I’ve never gotten into gambling. I “bet” my money in other ways, though, that’s not sports betting, though if you don’t take risks, you don’t make money (though what I risk my money on rests on my skill and knowledge, along with luck too, but I have a lot more control over it than sports betting, in my opinion).

Charles Murray says he’s tackling epigenetics (“the hyped stuff, not real epigenetics.”), which he doesn’t demarcate and I’ll assume he means the transgenerational stuff. But I’ve asked him what his thoughts are on “real epigenetics” and he’s not responded so I don’t know his thoughts, nor even if his thoughts on both are coherent.
Somehow I doubt he’ll engage with serious authors like Jan Baedke (Above the Gene, Beyond Biology: Toward a Philosophy of Epigenetics), Maurizio Meloni (Impressionable Biologies: From the Archeology of Plasticity to the Sociology of Epigenetics, Political Biology), Shea Robinson (Epigenetics and Public Policy: The Tangled Web of Science and Politics), David Moore (The Dependent Gene, The Developing Genome: An Introduction to Behavioral Epigenetics), Susan Oyama (The Ontogeny of Information, Evolution’s Eye, Cycles of Contingency), Denis Noble (Dance to the Tune of Life, The Music of Life), and Jablonka and Lamb (Evolution in Four Dimensions, Epigenetic Inheritance and Evolution: The Lamarckian Dimension).
Its releasing in Jan, 2020. Can’t wait. Should have a ton of material to blog about from it. For real, before people discuss epigenetics (like JayMan) they need to read Baedke, Noble, and Meloni, at the very least.

“K Dot”, in my post I described the nature of gc (crystallized IQ) from my understanding:
gc = gc (genetic component of) + gf (fluid IQ in relation to age/education)
where gf is tied to how much you’re able to learn given your age and time spent learning.
Distinctive qualities of ‘g’-factor (gc, gf, etc) are still essentially the same thing. Your fluid IQ of 128, by some, would be considered as your true IQ (or the specific part that determines intelligence – others are auxiliary). Why? Because fluid IQ represents your learning abilities; how you reason through novelty. It is your capability for identifying distinctions between or within objects to make sense of. However, your ability to articulate what you intuitively understand is hindered by your gc; or even to make connections to solidify your understanding. You might feel exactly what you want to say, but don’t have the knowledge to make necessary connections between concepts; how loosely or tightly connected, will be based on your knowledge and comprehension. And if you don’t have a particularly strong memory to compensate, information may be fleeting or your ability to apply it simply weak.
We also understand that there are people with gc being much higher than their gf. This is where we have to understand that aspects of ‘g’ are different but the same in essence. And in my equation I noted the distinct genetic component of gc to indicate a genetic limit, though as an addition it probably doesn’t make too much sense. From my understanding and belief, there is an aspect of gc that limits the influence of gf on gc and diverges to a degree. This level of intricacy really complicates basic understanding, or having a particular presumption about how IQ changes. But just know that aspects of ‘g’ are distinctive, and in some cases so much so that they can be seen as distinct.
Addressing whether knowledge can make you smarter: yes and no. Now my understanding of IQ I’ve hinted at. I believe IQ is the measure of how productive you can be with your intelligence, not strictly intelligence. Working memory and processing speed are auxiliaries of intelligence, which intelligence is measured in WAIS as your general ability index. GAI is made up of gc and gf, with some believing gf to be the purest form of reasoning ability. Knowledge can make you smarter insofar that you’re making your pure reasoning ability more applicable; that you’re able to make the abstract more concrete and practical. This may result in an improvement of your deductive reasoning, since you’re having to assimilate information with knowledge. It could simply reinforce your intuition with a firm grasp; that being your acquisition of information with concepts you’re already familiar with or able to discern intuitively but not contextualized due to lack of reference. So you’re either making what you already have measurable in a different way, extending the dimensions of your reasoning, or actually changing/increasing your reasoning. Both still hard to do once you’re well into your teens, but the former more likely because gc does increase with age to in the end compensate for gf decreasing after 25-30. Fluid intelligence is what holds the majority of IQ’s fluctuation when young, so we’re making an assumption that 128 is your true fluid IQ, that it will not increase or decrease by the time you’re 18.
Billy said:
Your working memory is what’s limiting you from making use of that 145 matrix reasoning, assuming that part of the test is untimed. You have the working memory equivalent of taking pinch-sized portions instead of a handful. The instructions I gave you last time are exactly what you need to follow. You need to read, practice for the SAT (learn words and do mental math), and use the brain workshop software I told you about. Dual-N back is supposedly good for improving working memory by doing a session a day with high interference.
And if you can’t improve your working memory, you can just compensate by studying more. Just gonna have to spend more time studying until the information sticks or you improve your deductive skills.

A psychoanalysis of Dante and Virgil (Capcom) from the Devil May Cry, gaming franchise as a whole.. I don’t physically game any more, however gaming is just as important medium for Forms, Ideas, Spirits, Memes, etc. to manifest into our world as thru movies.
For those of you that are older, and don’t know, Devil May Cry is THE action gaming franchise, and has been around for almost 20 years. Since game number 1, the lore has been entrenched in extremely, heavy occult symbolism, so much in fact, it would be impossible for the lore research development team to not be actual occultists themselves.
In game 1 your quest is to travel to Mallet Island, seal an opened door to the demon realm, and defeat Satan himself!
Luckily you play as an extremely powerful half demon, reptilian, shapeshifter. no seriously you play as a reptilian shapeshifter.
Once you reach the island you will find yourself travelling amongst a perfectly intact medieval castle, and its surrounding courtyard, estates. The castle inhabitants have all vanished, however thru item descriptions, you the player learn (if your intelligent and knowledgeable in the occult) that the inhabitants were worshiping Satan, and by extension his demon army, and thru their dealings the inhabitants discovered magical ways to bind their souls to inanimate objects thru-out the castle, thus gaining immortality as long as their bodies stay in tact. Considering these “bodies” are simply marionette puppets, one can see how horrifying an existence like that would be.
As you fight thru the legions of Hell and learn more about the castle, you discover many esoteric items thru out history to advance to certain areas in your quest. You discover the Holy Grail, the Staph of Hermes, and more importantly, you actually end up creating The Philosopher’s Stone, and you use it to open the demon world to personally fight Satan! (Demons do not swarm out, his armies were not actually ready by the time you end up fighting him)
Now in order to understand the depth of the symbolism, you must all know whom Satan is according to [redacted by pp, may 16, 2019]. The [redacted by pp, may 16, 2019] as many of you already know have always been and still are, completely and utterly obsessed with numbers and numerology. The number 666 was used in code to refer to the Roman Emperor Augustus and the number 616 was used in code to refer to the Roman Emperor Nero. Jesus (the Sun) was sent by God (Saturn) and Jesus was killed on the cross (a giant plus sign), he was stabbed with the Spear of Destiny (a giant minus sign) by a roman soldier (The anti-Christ) whom was sent by Satan ( The Emperor)
In ancient times Planets and Stars were considered one in the same, and the [redacted by pp, may 16, 2019]believed Saturn was the original Solar System Star, which gave light to the Earth, and that The Sun wandered into our Solar System and usurped Saturn. There was a split among the Jews, some wanted to continue worshiping Saturn, and others wanted to worship the Sun, and these [redacted by pp, may 16, 2019]became known as Christians, and started worshiping the Sun on Sunday and calling The Sun, Jesus. These groups had to worship in code, because freedom of religion was (obviously) not a thing, and if you did not believe the emperor was the God King you were put to death. Essentially Star Worship was forbidden.
Now you understand, It is not a coincidence in the final act of the game you fight and kill 1 of Satan’s generals inside of a Roman Coliseum.
Thematically the story of the 1st game is about Dante, son of a former Roman general named Sparda (yes that’s Dante’s demon fathers name.) Sparda rebelled and usurped the Emperor Mundus without killing him, and Sparda benevolently served his country for a time, until retiring and fading away into obscurity. Sparda separated the formerly 1 world into 2. The human world and the demon world respectfully (He was the last true king and ended the reign of the monarchy.)
In the human world banking develops, modern technology, science instead of alchemy etc. However in the demon world its still based on the Monarchy system. Thematically the Monarchy system cannot be destroyed, only packaged put in a box and locked away, and only Dante a man of Royal Bloodline can quell, any rising monarchy.
So at the end of the game, after defeating (bu not killing) Satan you seal the door to the demon realm and go home with the princess, (she is meant to represent your true prize) for being a hero.
Game number 2, This time you have to defeat an evil billionaire attempting to open the door to the demon realm (a lone banker trying to bring back the monarchy system), then you have to enter said demon realm, then defeat a former demon Emperor. Not much of a challenge for you thematically at this point.
Game number 3 is a prequel before game number 1 and your 18, your identical twin brother named Virgil tries to open the demon world using the tower of Babel, in a bid to become demon world Emperor and its up to you to stop him. Well you fail and have to close the demon world from the inside and you end up trapping your brother inside, while you escape to the human world.
Game number 4 is after 2, Turns out a cult is worshiping your father as a God, and summoning demons, obviously they are once again trying to open a portal to the demon world. So you head out to stop them. When you get there, you find out your twin brother had a son shortly before he was trapped in the demon realm and that son is named Nero and hes about 18 now. Nero is both Dante’s son and Nephew since the brothers are identical twins.
You and your son-phew work together to seal and destroy the different Hell Gates scattered thru out the island and dismantle the cult by assassinating its leader.
Game Number 5 is the end of the “Sons of Sparda” story line.
Your brother Virgil has achieved his goal of becoming emperor of the demon world and is now trying to bring back the monarchy system in full force by actually sending his armies thru yet another Hell Gate. to attack the human world. Virgil is so powerful he actually beats you multiple times until the ending were you fight to a standstill and you and your son-phew have to use words to convince him to close the gate. So you and your brother close the gate together and stay on the demon side, while your son-phew stays on the human side.
Now that we all understand the monarchy symbolism, lets move onto the character analysis.
Dante at first glance may seem like an average intelligence super Chad, that never has an embarrassing moment, but the reality is, he actually has a ridiculously hi IQ.
I’ll leave the exact measurements to Pumpkin still, there are some blatant facts that prove the guys insanely smart.
Dante runs a shop called Devil May Cry, in short he hunts demons, for a living. Not because it pays well, but because he’s the best in the world at it, and loves it. Being the best in the world at AND doing something you love and enjoy for a living, right there alone is a sign of higher than average IQ.
Also he masters any weapons he touches, no matter how intricate, solves esoteric philosophical puzzles, and pieces together information about his surroundings into varies files, considering he’s not just a demon hunter but also a supernatural detective.
In the games you only ever see him working, so it seems like he’s this hyper competent, super man with no character flaws. That is until you watch the Animated series, which shows what his life is like in between jobs.
In short he is depressed, and drinks himself to sleep at night, and is constantly broke, despite his hi IQ, and ridiculously good looks. He simply cannot fully relate to life in the human world. He is a righteous man at heart, however he is still naturally violent and blood thirsty, and the fact he has to suppress that during non working hours, stresses him to no end. The most fun you ever see him have in the series is when he is fighting, and or stuck in the demon world for a long period of time.
Virgil has an inferiority complex due to their mother loving Dante more, and also Virgil blames himself for their Mothers death instead of Satan. Virgil believes himself to be weak and seeks more power, a natural belief he has, based in the reality Dante was his mom’s favorite, most likely because Dante is more intelligent.
Virgil is clearly not as intelligent as Dante despite the 2 looking exactly the same physically. The lack of intelligence is shown thru how he was treated by his mom, and by the fact Virgil is manipulated by older men thru-out his teenage and young adult life. (A man named Arkham and Satan respectively) but Dante was never manipulated by anyone at any point in his life, he is always the manipulator, in fact, he is known as “the trickster.” Virgil put his nose in the occult and dedicated his young life to studying libraries and travelling abroad, to learn more about enhancing his demonic power.
By the time they were both 18, Virgil seemed more intelligent because he had been a bookworm for over a decade, and also was more powerful because he had learned how to harness and enhance his demonic power.
And in a few hours Dante surpassed all those years Virgil had over him, to the point were Dante literally went from street punk, to enlightened philosopher, in the span of a single night, and able to defeat his brother in a fight of demonic energy.
The difference in IQ is also shown in their fighting. Dante is a weapon pragmatist, he’ll use anything he can get his hands on to win a fight, and he will do it with complicated over the top flair and style. Meanwhile Virgil is boring but practical in the way he fights, and still loses. Also he does not use many different weapons, he sticks to nearly the same weapon thru out his series run (a katana). Also his win to loss ratio is atrocious.
Virgil is the type of guy to not get a perfect on the practice SAT and then go spend $200 plus dollars on a stack of nutropic pills to study better. Or the guy that uses Steroids to get better pumps at the gym.
Virgil thematically did not surpass the naturally superior Dante until he started using their universe’s version of demonic steroids/nutropics . Then Dante did the same in order to compete, and they both became about equal in power in the end.
The conflict of their narrative is the sibling rivalry. Virgil is represented by the color blue, while Dante is represented by the color red. Conflict between red and blue is a fundamental part of the universe.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redshift
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blueshift
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_radiation
I guarantee you, the color they rep is not a coincidence considering son-phew Nero wears purple (red and blue combined)
Dante uses long sword, Virgil, uses shortsword, Dante wears his hair down, Virgil wears it up, mirror differences compiled on top of each other.
My point in all of this is to illuminate the fact these huge video game franchises, are the most efficient places for memes to manifest themselves into our world. We must study these 20 plus year lasting game franchises and study the memes that keep players new and old coming back. From what I’ve seen, the most esoterically occult symbolic, video games, generate the largest cult followings, not puzzles and simple card game, or games rated e for every one, with little to no plot.

(Demons do not swarm out, his armies were not actually ready by the time you end up fighting him)
Now in order to understand the depth of the symbolism, you must all know whom Satan is according to JEWS. The JEWS as many of you already know have always been and still are, completely and utterly obsessed with numbers and numerology.
In ancient times Planets and Stars were considered one in the same, and the JEWSbelieved Saturn was the original Solar System Star, which gave light to the Earth, and that The Sun wandered into our Solar System and usurped Saturn. There was a split among the Jews, some wanted to continue worshiping Saturn, and others wanted to worship the Sun, and these JEWSbecame known as Christians, and started worshiping the Sun on Sunday and calling The Sun, Jesus.

Ignore the stylish game-play and focus on the symbolism. The Griffin is fought in the Roman Coliseum before Satan makes his appearance in the sky. the Griffin is an especially powerful and majestic creature. It is a Christian symbol of divine power and a guardian of the divine.
Here the Griffin is Satan’s right hand man, and Satan’s appearance in game is that of a 3 eyed huge angelic statue, at least until his true form under the facade is revealed.

My hypothesis would be this :
Most people are bad at estimating probabilities or winning. They are not risk averse but are better at estimating the probablilities or losing and the consequences.
So in a bet, the amount that most people, won’t have – considering each bet independly irrespective of the consequences of the iteration, menial consequences. But a win would have better consequences but people are bad at actualizing the value (by multiplying it by the probability).
That’s why more people play lotteries than betting even if there is no content , just shear chance.
That’s why death penalty is a very low deterrent compared to long jail sentences, because people, except with mental illnesses, already put maximum value to the hypothetical bad consequences irrespective of the low probability of being caught.
The emphasis on avoiding the bad ls very good for preserving order. It’s lower on both tails of society for different reasons : higher they are better at actualizing the value, lower they just are not able to ponder facts that don’t depend on them (they just take the stuff)
