Liberals have been complaining about what a fool Kanye West made of himself yesterday, by ranting incoherently at the white house and allowing himself to be used as a prop by President Trump.
However during the rant West claimed to have seen a psychologist and scored at the 98th percentile in IQ, but “only” the 75th percentile in repeating numbers. If this self-report can be trusted, it sounds like he was administered the WAIS-IV and got a full-scale IQ of 130 but a 110 in the working memory index.
Of course West also claimed to be a billionaire, so he seems prone to wild hyperbole (or confusion), however the IQ results sound more authentic because he gave a percentile (unlike many people who just claim an IQ) and it wasn’t astronomical (unlike most false high IQ claims), and because he also admitted to scoring mediocre in the repeating numbers section.
Of course liberals will consider him dumb not just because he’s a conservative, but because as a black man he should know better. However he might be smart enough to realize that unlimited (low-skilled) immigration is bad for the black community because it drives down wages, and thus may have given his Trump support more thought than meets the eye. And Trump’s tax cuts are certainly good for him as a business man.
There’s also the fact that West is supposedly very good at drawing, and might easily score 130+ on the Draw-a-Person IQ test.
It’s always interesting when a super rich person has some special talent that’s completely different from the talent for which they got rich, because it implies they have general intelligence, and are not just one-trick ponies who were in the right place at the right time.
Of course West doesn’t talk like someone with an IQ above 130, or even above 100, but having grown up middle class home with a PhD mother (high IQ DNA?), he may feel the need to sound especially ghetto to prove he’s part of hip-hop culture and not some privileged elite. Add to that his mediocre working memory (75th percentile) and long sentences might not be his forte. In addition, like a lot of creative people, he might be mentally ill, causing him to seem much dumber than he is.
Trump described him as a smart cookie, but whether that was sincere or condescension, I know not. Whatever Trump’s flaws, he’s probably very good at reading people.
Anyway, I hope West really does have a 98th percentile IQ. It’s always fascinating when a high IQ person gets rich in a field that has nothing to do with academics and required no academic credentials. It shows IQ tests really do measure intelligence and predict real world adaptive behavior and not just narrow book smarts.

I’ve heard celebrities mention their IQ or SAT scores before but I’ve never heard one mention his scores on a specific subtest. If your point is only that virtually no one has an SAT score more than 2 SD higher than the regression line predicting SAT scores from ASVAB IQs, then you’re probably right. But if you’re arguing that virtually no one has an SAT score more than 2 SD higher than their ASVAB IQ, then you appear to be misinformed about the distribution of SAT scores if the general population took the test.

The top graph is PREDICTING that people with ASVAB scores of 134 (who were academically ambitious enough to take the SAT) will average 1340 on the SAT while the graph below it is predicting that people with 1340 SATs will average IQ 127 on the ASVAB. It doesn’t. 1340 equated to IQ 139 from the 1970s to 1994, and then about IQ 133 when the test got easier. However people who scored IQ 139 on the harder SAT regressed to IQ 127 on the ASVAB. Presumably people who score IQ 133 on the easier SAT will regress below 127.
Note that the average IQ on the ASVAB for a given SAT score is not the same as the IQ equivalent of a given SAT score. The latter is just one’s score on the SAT converted to a scale where the average American scores 100 with an SD of 15. It’s not calculated from performance on other tests.
So basically based on this data and the graph no one with an IQ lower than 105(just one person at 105) would have been able to get a score of 1340 in order to get into Harvard back then. In fact based on this graph the next lowest IQ with a Harvard passing SAT is 116. Therefore the anecdotal 2 SD more than IQ would predict doesn’t seem to apply at higher scores needed for Harvard.
Using the 300 point max improvement on the SAT one is reasonable capable of beyond what their IQ would predict(1.5 SD), roughly 1 in 200 Harvard students would have an IQ average of 110. Meaning that realistically about 36 Harvard undergraduates would have an IQ of about 110. The rest would be more in line with their SAT results.
If we were to include the 2 SD(no evidence for this at higher levels but lets play along) about 7 students might have an IQ as low as 104.

Rome got powerfull becuase they didnt have any adversatives in the Middle East (thanks to Italy being more fertile than Persia), and from that position could create peace in Anatolia, Egypt and mesopetamia. From that position was it only possible to maintain controll over the western provinces in the manner they did. Well they could have done it withougt the eastern part of the empire aiding them initially, but with the spread of better agriculture methods “Barabarian” lands became significantly stronger, and thats partially why he western Roman Empire died so fast.
The peak of the Roman Empire was when the elite didnt afford to have infighting (thanks to only some lands being the valuable lands, meaning that armies couldnt be raised in other places), have all positive incentives lie in having an as efficient beurocracy as possible and conquer other lands (that couldnt compete with the romans independently, yet put the roman feet on fire). Later on the outer territories got too powerfull, so these two factors desinegrated first leading to the crisis of the third century, but only getting worse later on with the collapse of the western Roman Empire.
You seem to ignore MENA involvement in Rome, it was really relevant. The romans treated other cultures with respect as long as there was reciprocality, and support to the capital through… coolie free trade 😉 . Expensive infighting in Italy did occur during the “Social war”, which was about xenophobia pretty much. So theres an dissadvantage of xenophobia in the empire, that could have gone very bad.
