There’s a fascinating article in The Ringer about how Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch was one of the most important pop-culture events of the 21st century, and transformed the nature of media and celebrity in America. It goes down in history as the moment celebrities lost control of the narrative and the internet took over.
As I recall, Cruise was there to promote the movie War of the Wolds but the interview got side tracked because Cruise was so “in love” with Katie Holmes that he could hardly concentrate on Oprah’s questions and instead just jumped on her couch like a lovesick schoolboy.
I found the show entertaining, but when I checked the internet after, a storm was brewing. Many gay men were swarming gossip sites to say “TOM YOU ARE GAY!” and were furious that he went on Oprah acting fanatically hetero.
Many gay men are attracted to Tom Cruise and thus want to believe he is gay, and don’t like it when their most iconic “gays” deny their “gayness”.
We see a similar phenomenon in the black community. When Tiger Woods told Oprah he was “Cablinasian” (Caucasian + Black + Indian + Asian) many blacks stormed the media screaming “TIGER YOU ARE BLACK!!!”

There is a problem with the studies of ethnic East Asians in the United States and elsewhere,
in that many of the samples have continued to speak Japanese, Chinese, or Korean as their
first language and have consequently performed poorly on verbal tests in English. In many
cases it is impossible to tell the extent of this handicap.

these the visualization IQ is greater than the verbal IQ (the study in row 13 is the exception).
The mean difference between the two abilities is 4.4 IQ points and is present in studies using a variety of tests. This confirms the pattern found in the samples of indigenous East Asians
given in Table 10.1.
On the knowledge subtests, particularly WaiS, RR may be right that the test measures middle-class culture. Unfortunately, RR is too ignorant to talk of the other subtests. They all cannot be the result of crystallized intelligence (knowledge) but must be, to an extent, fluid intelligence. Crystalized intelligence is more subject to sampling errors. Poor kids don’t read certain books but they should have higher IQ’s. That is a cultural bias of the crystallized part of the tests. And not all forms of fluid intelligence are included in subtests. Fluid intelligence needs a larger number of subtests to measure it. IQ drops several points, not including particular subtests. All this creates sample/norming errors. It could be better.

Yes, the first levels are teak tough. And there is no help, they assume youll go online to figure out what everything means. The game gets a small bit easier as you level up. But because its so well designed in terms of balance, it always a challenge.
If you were totally a loser, you could ‘brute force’ your way and just farm XP killing normal enemies like they did in South Park with killing pigs in the forest to level up on World of Warcraft. The game offers an opportunity thankfully to farm, without doing something mind numbing by doing the chalice challenges.
What makes the game not tough as some of the older games is the beckoning bell. IMO, the bell is there to help you if you’re stuck. So I do ring it to get help now and then.
If there is no beckoning bell, IMO the game is one of the toughest I’ve ever played.
I thought the first resistance game on the ps3 was a very tough game. It reminded me a lot of older FPS. You can go half an hour between checkpoints. And many of the time, you are camping and creeping.
Most of these games are actually old games, remade or still 15 years old.
Ninja Gaiden I did mention was a tough game. And bloodborne/dark souls is tough.
I laughed when they said donkey kong was tough. Donkey Kong was marketed to children in the 90s. And kids games back then are tougher than most adult games today by that direct analogy.
This game should never have been marketed to kids.
I rememeber the later levels are pure IQ test puzzle solving. This is way harder than anything comparable to kids games today.

The chemical makeup of cells in the brain affects the tissues functioning. Gut bacteria determines the kind of chemicals the brain receives. Some chemical combinations will increase better function and some will decrease it. Gut bacteria then affects intelligence by chemical effects on brain tissue functioning.

I would assume so. It makes sense, especially knowing the link between gut and brain. It also doesn’t have to be influencing “intelligence” (whatever I call “cognition,” see above), it has many other effects on the body.

Why should it be “increase my intelligence” (re some number on a test)? Diet strongly influences which species of git bacteria one has. Of course certain food combinations will increase or decrease good or bad gut bacteria. This also comes into play with synaptic pruning. It’s called “microglia pruning” and they develop the synapses along with regulating synaptic plasticity and functioning. I know of one study on rats fed… A high fat diet that increased microglia in the brain? I don’t recall off the top of my head. I’ll link the article later.
Food can make you smarter.

Diet is not a big deal as I mentioned before. South Korea reached even more than first world standards faster than equivalent sized north west European countries.
