From what I understand from friends who live there, there was a time in Boston that no black person dare go into certain Italian and Irish neighborhoods. Bill Russell called it the most racist city in the country.
Director Spike Lee did an interesting job depicting black-Italian relations in his films Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever. This scene from the latter film depicts the fury of an Italian father discovering his daughter is dating a black guy:
Of course this is fictional and folks were more racist in the 1990s, so who knows how many Italian fathers would really act like that today. And would he have gone so ballistic if his daughter were dating a Jew, an Arab, an East Asian, a South Asian? I don’t think so. Blacks were in a separate category from other non-whites, at least back then, and perhaps through most of history.

This kind of open hostilities from Northern prole whites towards blacks I don’t think really exists anymore, at least not since the 90s. Several times I’ve gotten some legit Polish and Czech food in Polish and Czech neighborhoods in Chicago and people were incredibly friendly. Blacks and Italians have always had a love-hate relationship because the coolest whites like the Fonz and John Travolta always have some Italian ancestry (Steve McQueen and Marlon Brando excepted, though Brando played an Italian well). Of course, all of the outward love covered up some deep-seated hostilities as portrayed in the clips above. At the end of the day, a lot of the racial hostilities may be framed in terms of culture war, or economic rivalry, or sometimes (more furtively) discussed in terms of intelligence and crime differences. What the historical record shows is that theories of black inferiority developed as justifications for slavery, not the other way around. No such thing existed in the ancient world when slavery was deemed normal, not restricted to a given race and not associated with intrinsic properties of the slaves.
And that’s a very American thing. In Europe, me and the white or other non-black girlfriends I’ve had as well as the interracial couples I know never flet like we were breaking any rule. It doesn’t seem to happen in Latin America or anywhere else in the world. It really comes down to white America’s obsession with racial purity.

I have never seen a North African being upset because his sister married a White. There is a very good feature which is more common among blacks and it’s sympathy.
The most sympathetic people i know or knew were/are blacks. Indeed, based only in my anecdotal experiences i found white people quite cold and distant, or it’s just my exterior being reflected in other people ..too.
Black people seems relatively less concerned with social classes also probably because poor people tend to be more friendly [in some instances] than middle and specially rich people, the most classist of all.

Probably the biggest differences I’ve noticed between blacks and whites, having been around both groups almost equally growing up:
Blacks tend to be more vocal; when a group of blacks are around the volume is the room goes up several decibels.
Black are much more anti-intellectual: I have pretty intelligent black friends but the non-intelligent ones I know only care about hip-hop, sports and sex. Their knowledge of the world outside their immediate surroundings is so limited it’s almost scary. At least prole whites tend to enjoy the outdoors and engage in hobbies that aren’t sports. I guess it takes an Q above 90 to be able to have real interests that don’t involve shaking your booty or dunking on someone.

Arabs, or more accurately Muslims have always been more stigmatized than Blacks in Europe and I don’t think 9/11 changed it. I doubt Arabs are more stigmatized than blacks in the US, especially the Christians of Lebanese and Syrian origin who have never been seen as non-whites.
As for the role of the Media. I really doubt it was significant, I rather think it’s due to the death of those who had lived most of their lives before the civil rights era.

As for myself, I’ve never felt hated or disrespected, on the contrary, being black has always been an asset in my life. If your definition of too muscular is people built like sprinters or US football players, these are much more attractive body types than skinny. Yes, except why I mean by too much muscle, is way more muscular than what you probably think of. Too muscular for me is when you look like you’re on steroids and you spend all of the time in the gym, like a pro bodybuilder. That’s sort of prole, but not much more than being obese. And it’s so rare that probably no one has an opinion on this. For muscles in general, it depends a lot on how you carry them. Someone who always wears skin tight clothes and tank tops like the guys in Jersey Shore is ridiculous. Someone who’s just big but not showing off night and day is okay.

The average Fst distance between human races is approximately 0.15.
