There are basically two extreme type of people in the world: those who do anything to be famous and those who don’t. Jews, seems, have a higher % of the first type of people.

But the difference between Oprah and other self-made billionaires is Oprah (like all performers) was the product. Other self-made billionaires are not the product, so they had to figure out how to profit from products created by others and there’s an inherent exploitation in that.

Show business fits the Marxist model in that the performers are the proletariat (they sell their labour) and the network executives are the Bourgeoisie (they pay the talent for hire less than they’re actually worth so that the Bourgeoisie can make a profit).
Oprah became a billionaire because 1) she was the most valuable proletariat on TV at the peak of TV’s value as a medium, and 2) she was shrewd enough to leverage her value to join the Bourgeoisie by demanding ownership of her show and production company. But she never became parasitic like other bourgeoisie because she was always her most valuable product.

OK, that sounds a little ridiculous..
Didn’t realise gaming videos were the number one video category on youtube. Some of my best gaming achievements were beating the original crash bandicoot in the 90s 100%, beating sephiroth in kingdom hearts, my world records times in Colin McRae Dirt, beating that halloween nightmare level in one of the original medal of honour games.
Games back in the 90s were A LOT harder than in subsequent years. And I remember stuff on the original gameboy and sega megadrive that were tough as nails. Much of the time it was due to shit controls. They weren’t user friendly.
I always remember the conversation I had when I was about 7 or 8 with a guy in my housing estate. I told him I can get to the final boss in Shinobi, but can’t beat him. And he said he beat him tons of times. It never occured to my child like mind that he was bullshitting. I remember saying on the spot – ok im going back home and trying it again.
Sephiroth was a bitch in KH. I hardly play games anymore but I’ll definitely get number III.
I remember my dad coming back from one of his Lebanon/Israel peacekeeping missions and he got 60 of these bootleg video games. There was a lot of stuff there that was total garbage or just weird.
This gecko game was bizarre and tough. The guy who designed this must have been on acid.
This dune game got me into real time strategy games.
This rugrats game was also weird. I remember not understanding the story or anything I was doing. But just figuring out the mechanics of it true brute trial and error.
I associate this in my mind with pro wrestling which i was watching a lot at the time.
The games now are kind of like the way movies are now. They stick to known franchises and formulas and don’t innovate like that Gex Gecko game. Its the same in movies where the studios are now afraid to do one off type movies or have novel stories.
But they are a lot more playable and user friendly and ‘polished’. Games used to have many glitches and bad programming.

I remember being addicted to these types of games where you had a map and had to plan your route in advance with limited ammo and fuel and it was up to you to do the missions on whatever order. They were very good games back in the day but Id say many people found them too tough because its one of the very few games where youre tested in the same way you are tested in chess.
They stopped making this type of game completely in the late 90s. You cant get anything like it today.
It would be great if they made a new 3d version of this series.

The fact that video games are much easier these days would indicate that average IQs must be dropping, because they beta test these things on kids for test marketing.
Its not just me saying it. Everyone agrees games from the 80s and 90s were rock hard compared to stuff today. You didn”t have message boards or online walkthroughs or auto saving either.
People say IQs have been rising but the paradox is that the types of movies that are made, games, exam papers etc keep showing people are getting dumber and dumber.
Most of the main box office movies today are basically kids movies.

Another way you can prove people are getting dumber is adjusting for raw numbers of the population that are expected to be a smart fraction. What I mean is, if the population is like China, than even the smartest 10% is a hundred million which can hide the millions of barely literate peasents in test score averages and that.

The last Jedi was supposed to be about how Luke lost faith in the force, always the dark would arise to meet the light. A never-ending cycle he believed could end if he gave up. But Rey appeared because the force chose her, a person who was a nobody who luke would show that she mattered (breath just breath) the word in the trailer, overcome the emptiness inside with stillness. Everything is connected the darkness can be overcome inside you. Rey shows Luke she is not like Kylo she does not embrace the darkness she faces it. Luke sees Rey overcomes a darkness greater than the darkness he ever had to face. Believes in the force again.

Having a high verbal IQ is not essential, but it helps a lot in daytime TV because it’s so competitive and improvisational.

Being black was a double edged sword when Oprah went national in 1986. Yes it helped with blacks and liberal white viewers, but most of daytime TV at the time was watched by working class and suburban whites who had no interest in having a black looking black woman like Oprah in their living rooms. We’re used to it today, but you have to consider how taboo black still was in 1986. Even MTV wouldn’t play black videos in the early 80s. Oprah had to be extra talented to win over much of the working white class.
One of the King brothers claims he was told by a TV station that they could get a better rating from putting a potato on TV than a black woman.

No Letterman’s show is not 100% scripted. The monologue is scripted and guests are sometimes told questions ahead of time, but other than that they’re not scripted, and Oprah’s show was even less scripted.

syndication vs network shouldn’t affect pay. if the network won’t pay, the talent can simply threaten to leave. then they pay.

The average brazilian teacher is not too bad in quality than a average finnish teacher.
