I have discovered a reasonably rare source revealing the arithmetic abilities of a man whose intellect arguably constitutes the greatest of the 20th century, a man whose genius oversaw the creation of the computer architecture that forms the basis of all modern computers, a man whose great vision extended to the creation of game theory, quantum formalization, the Von Neumann self-replicating space probe and beyond. It’s not an exaggeration to say he laid the groundwork for the present and the future of mankind.
Subsequent to his achievements yarns inevitably follow about the mind behind the achievements, about his capabilities. Stories abound of arithmetic abilities that border on the supernatural, therefore I act in the capacity of Ghostbuster in the course of this article. Inspired in part by PP’s transmission of a theory by a Promethean, and in part by my own speculations on the matter I present the true arithmetical capabilities of a man at the very heighth of intellectual power and the implications for that on processing power, speed and consequently broader intelligence.
The revealing anecdote itself is at the very bottom of this fascinating account of the Princeton mathematical community by Nobel Laureate Eugene Wigner.
His capabilities act as a yardstick for processing power for all those that stand between the average and himself, a measuring stick for what it means to have mental powers; I hope my contribution will allow for PP to develop his vision of processing power and intelligence and from there perhaps extract a method for a more precise estimation of intelligence from this highly g-loaded ability.
In the words of Norman Mcrae in his superlative biography of John Von Neumann: “The story conflicts with the notion that Johnny was a mental calculator without peer. The uninformed view has always held that mathematicians are the very devils at multiplying and dividing. Some are, some are not, and there are always idiot savants here and there who are better at it than even the very best mathematicians.”

Masculinity is multidimensional. Guys who are masculine intellectually can be feminine emotionally. Guys who are masculine when it comes to muscle can be feminine when it comes to height.
Cognition and personality obviously are not separated but they are not the same thing either even one usually influence other. So it’s possible or seems possible you have a feminine personality and a masculine cognition. Or not so.

Seems there are some aspects that are more common among men than among women and are over expressed among autistics, I said SOME and not all. Bear in mind that because neurodiversity campaign “we” start to see autistics and specially on the high functioning side as”non-“delayed”, but they tend to show stereotypical features that resemble if not express “mental delay”. i made the high scores on all the ACS exams and on the GRE subject test in chemistry and on the GRE general. i was given a special money award from wisconsin. i got into the most desired research group.
then my professor lost his funding for good. he’s had no students since. i would have had to teach for 5 years, and teaching is immoral.
so i applied to the land grant university in my state. much less competitive. they rejected me. they said they hadn’t gotten my transcript from wisconsin and a recommendation. in other words, a made up reason.
99th percentile on ACS exams in organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry. 99th percentile on GRE subject test in chemistry. i was probably the single best candidate in the country. and they reject my application. and you wonder why i think america is run by stupid and evil people.
the real reason my application was rejected is they didn’t have any money either and i said that i wouldn’t teach.

This means that at IQ 130 you’ll nurse perhaps one or two original ideas over the course of your life if you’re inclined to do so and at those at the zenith of IQ like the subject of my guest article will have over 30, or as is the case with John Von Neumann over 80.

Reasoning, and namely verbal reasoning, the most accessible by now, is the best way to analyse in crude way the levels of real intelligence, i mean, fluid intelligence, and not just chrystallized, and Robert has proved many times here that he’s not what its self-propaganda says. Very easy, argue with someone, if he/she is faster to improvise interesting and even possibly correct arguments, this person is, at least above in intelligence, namely in its capacity to think. Intelligence is not just what you have but how you use it. Ok, seems, many people have much more, but don’t know how to use it, this seems to be the case of Muggy.
What you have = chrystallized. We know to memorize better what we find easier to memorize and it’s quasi-instinctive [if not, neo-instinct/ to complete human development].
But to work with it, you need extra-agility and/or literal intelligence.

Factual understanding is other very important component, if not the most important of all, because you are just perceiving, interacting and capturing facts, real things, from the concrete or from the abstract truth. I don’t know if Obama doesn’t like jews. But supposing it were the case, I would bet on deep prejudices created at a young age, and not on a comprehensive worldview (Weltanschaaung) acquired later :
1) Without being a muslim, he may have been influenced by Islam when he was young (Baraka is sunni for Gods abundance of gifts and Hussein is the shia name for Hassan and he has lived in Indonesia).
2) Perhaps because his dad left his mum, after less than 3 years, for a jewish lady, of lithuanian descent.

No, japanese is my first time with Pimsleur. And after that, I’ll try arabic (I’ve got 3 : MSA, egyptian, and eastern (wich is the syrian dialect, slightly different from levantine Lebanese). I’ve done the Michel Thomas method in both Japanese and Arabic (wich is Egyptian). As for european language, I study swedish with Assimil and with duolingo. And I’d like to study yiddish with Assimil.
My problem for japanese+arabic+yiddish is that, if I learn the grammar+vocabulary+phonetic really quickly, I’m a very slow learner for the written language (spelling + character memorization). This is the sole mental activity where I notice that having aphantasia is a real disadvantage. It slows me down a lot. And It creates a hiatus with my understanding of any radio program after just some weeks. But I’m now beginning to appreciate this new activity and being less bad at it (I’ve learned the japanese hiragana with duolingo and I’m beginning to learn katakana and kanjis).

I’ve been dabbling in Spanish and German for years but Ive never reached fluency. Ive heard some positive stuff about Pimsleur. Ill look into it because it would be very useful to be fluent in Spanish for my current job.
My dream someday would be to also learn French and maybe Russian, Arabic, Hindi, and maybe some East Asian languages. Pretty ambitious, I know😆 but I think having a high verbal IQ will help.
Spanish helps a lot in the USA. My mum is spanish so technically it is my maternal language. As an “hispanic”, I could have benefited from positive discrimination if i had studied in the USA 🙂
German can be very difficult if you havent studied a declension language (latin, most slavic languages). That makes German much more difficult than swedish. But once you get it, german is much easier than french or english, because it is written exactly as it is spoken. No surprise. It’s even more regular in that matter than spanish. German was the first foreign language I studied at school.

Economics probably loads more on verbal ability than most mathematic fields. Ayn Rand was a libertarian and she was a famous novelist.
