Yesterday the World was rocked by the devastating news that TV icon Marry Tyler Moore had passed away. As a man in my 30s, I personally didn’t know too much about her, but for working women coming of age in the 1970s, this woman was an incredible inspiration, especially for women in television like Oprah who was just coming up through the ranks in the cut-throat world of TV news, working with an older male co-anchor who simply didn’t want her. The theme song of Mary’s show was “you’re going to make it after all” and would end with a liberated Mary tossing her hat in the air, and 22-year-old Oprah would watch every Saturday night when she didn’t have a date.
Oprah did a tribute to the show’s famous opening where Oprah too would toss her hat in the air just like Mary, but with Oprah playing the part, the “you’re going to make it after all” theme took on special meaning.
With the exception of her best friend Gayle, no one thought Oprah would make it when she left a successful talk show in Baltimore that she was co-hosting with Richard Cher, to host her very own show in Chicago in the mid 1980s. People told her she was crazy to walk into Phil Donahue’s hometown and challenge the king of daytime TV in his own backyard. This was considered a suicide mission for anyone, especially an overweight black looking black woman.
And yet to everyone’s astonishment, she was successful immediately. The low budget morning talk show she took over went from dead last in the ratings to #1, practically overnight, and the rest is television history. She would go on to become not only the World’s most influential woman, but the richest African American of all time. She made it after all.

I fully understand your point. Though, that’s not all of it.
The point is, different environments from the ancestral one are novel. Just because you’re born 4km away from other generations is meaningless. Because, at the beginning at least, they’d still be somewhat near the ancestral environment. But as they migrated further and further away from the ancestral familiar environment, they needed to do new things to survive in those novel environments (or those who were able to learn new things survived and passed on genes).

Further, In what way is a new climate novel? At least in the way kanazawa defined it through domain specificity? Civilized society is a novel environment, slightly colder temperatures isn’t. I don’t know what he specifically says in this paper, besides what’s written in the abstract. But it’s my contention that it’s more than climatic novelty. Yes, survival is survival everywhere. However, new locations require new skills to survive in. The more intelligent will have a higher chance to survive and propagate; selecting those with higher intelligence, blah blah bah, with more of a chance of surviving in novel environments.

Take the different background. I enjoy working and I’ve worked since I was 17 years old. I’d have it no other way.

I’d rather have a slightly. Above average IQ along with high testosterone. I just got my testosterone tested again a few weeks ago as I do it yearly since I’ve gotten tested every year since I’ve turned 25. When I was 25 and got tested I had 700 ng/dl. I currently am at 710 ng/dl. I’m alive average for my age at it has to do with my diet and lifestyle.
I’ve worked with people my age who need to supplement testosterone. It sucks. Without it they have no energy, etc. I’ve taken test boosters before. They worked well. But I did that in my early 20s and I got shredded.
I’d rather go to the gym and have an above average IQ than be a low test high IQ beta with dangerously low testosterone. I’m currently working with people who need to supplement testosterone at a young age. It’s not fun.
