Sounds reasonable. GWAS simply identifies potential genetic causes of a trait. In order to verify that a particular SNP is causal, the results need to be replicated in diverse samples. For example, perhaps a certain SNP increases the risk of cancer. It could be that it doesn’t cause cancer per se, but rather causes you to smoke and the smoking causes cancer. But then if the same SNP is linked to cancer in a smoking free country like Bhutan, that excuse is no longer tenable and it seems the SNP is causal. So replication across diverse samples is key to proving causation. NOTE: I am using the term “cause” in either the active and passive sense, because I know you’ve argued against genes being actively causal and of course genes are not synonymous with SNPs

I’ve been intensely studying Africa as of late and I become less and less racist by the day. I’m starting to seriously doubt that Africans are inferior in intellect at all. I know that certain African ethnic groups are definitely more intelligent, Sudanese, Ethiopians and so on, but I am also seeing that West Africans were indeed capable of civilization. They had swords, armor, shields, they rode domesticated animals. They had buildings and shitty medieval castles.

There was one writing system developed in South East Nigeria called Nsibidi (it was shared by various tribes there and works ideographically as Chinese script does—with characters representing words—, and was able to represent syntactical language as a true script does). It goes back at least to ca. 400 ad but some features of it may be older (to 1,000 bc or so—give or take—, but that is more speculative and a post 100 bc-400 ad date seems more likely so far).

In Ethiopia, I believe the local script (Geez) had near Eastern roots (but was modified) and the script used in ancient Nubia in North and Central Sudan (Meroitic) was—modified but—based on the alphabetic symbols of Egyptian hieroglyphics (which the Nubians improved by adding consonants and word diving marks—much the way the Greeks improved the Phoenician script in forming their own.
Re: Central Africansand. West Africans
Central African tribes mostly belong to the Bantu ethnolinguistic group, which is pat of the larger Niger-Congo language family (the Niger-Congo family is mostly based in and native to West Africa. And it is one of the main language families on Africa, some others being Nilo-Saharan, Khoisan, Afro-Asiatic, and smaller groups or isolates like Hadza, etc). Proto-bantu split off sometime between 1,000 bc and 3,000 bc around Cameroon or the North West Congo (Bantu is a relatively very young/recently diverging branch of Niger Congo). West Africans are not Bantu (except for some Cameroonian ethnic groups) but belong to many other, much older and diverse branches of the Niger Congo family (which is very diverse, has many deeply rooted branches, and whose own original divergence likely goes back to the paleolithic (where it may possibly share a common ancestor with Nilo-Saharan). So Central Africans are distinct from West Africans but their ancestors descended from a branch of West Africans who spread into Central Africa, and from there into South Africa and parts of East Africa, and afew Central African tribes in parts of the Eastern Congo also belong to the Adamawa Ubangian family which is another branch of Niger-Congo different from bantu (not including Pygmies of course, who are a separate group more native to Central Africa, whose ancestors have been distinct from other Africans for tens of thousands of years—more than 200,000 years really—, and who originally had their own languages distinct from the Niger-Congo and other existing African language families, before they adopted the languages of their more advanced and dominant Bantu and Adamawa Ubangian neighbors, who were farmers whereas Pygmies were more primitive hunter-gatherers, while retaining some unique words and grammatical features from their originally languages).
There were some semi-civilized and relatively advanced cultures in parts of Central Africa, though these seem to be a bit less common and smaller in scale than those of West Africa (Central Africa probably was in general less advantageous in climate, being more densely forested and humid and having even fewer navigable rivers for instance)
Some examples being: the Kingdom of Kongo; the Kuba kingdom (also known as the Bushong of Bushongo); the Luba kingdom and its predecessor the Kissalian culture; Cameroonian kingdoms of the Cameroonian grassland region like the Bamileke, Bamoum Bandjoun, Bafut and others; the kingdom of the Mangbetu; and the East Central African kingdoms of Buganda in Uganda, Bunyoro and Rwanda. All these cultures having complex and interesting political structures and very high quality arts in many cases: e.g. raffia textiles and and ivory carving (some of which survives from the 1400s-1600s)—especially from the Kongo kingdom and Kuba—, wood and carving and metalwork and pottery (especially Kuba, Kongo, and the Cameroonian grassland region groups).
There were also (esp. in the cases of the Kuba, Mangbetu, Buganda and the the Bamileke and Bamoum, Bafut etc.,) some interesting and unique forms of architecture (I linked examples of Cameroonian grasslands architecture (e.g. Bamileke architecture) an earlier thread that you were part of below another post on this site.

That does seem to make sense); as humans are more bottlenecked than chimps (having had a smaller population size during an important period of our evolution), and thus have less genetic diversity (and also humans are unlike dogs are as a group overall, which, though more bottlenecked/interbred, were variously purposely bred artificially/selectively by humans for a wide variety of different specialized functions and thus are more diverse than humans). Human races may be as different as the differences between those those (very closely related groups of) dogs (types of labrador I believe), and I have sometimes thought so myself—but I’d have to do more research to be /preciselyabsolutely sure.

I saw all the new star wars movies recently. I really didnt want to but my buddy wanted to me to watch them with him. I had heard they were SJW fests. After watching them I think thats true but it doesnt detract from the quality of the movies. Theyre very good. The force awakens is very good. And Rogue 1 also. What I really liked is what JJ Abrams did by making the new one as faithful to the old ones in terms of plotting, cinematography and back story. I thought it was nostalgic. Being new to IQ scores and also having zero training in statistics, subtest scatter really confuses me. For example on my test, I scored 95th percentile on Matrix Reasoning and 91st percentile on Block Design but 99.6th percentile on information. Does this mean that my crystallized intelligence is high, but fluid intelligence has lost ground, perhaps due to age? And why am I 99.9 percentile overall? Are the forces of regression to the mean at work here?

Are these studies (the in-group collectivism study and the future orientation one) based on surveys ? There are some surprising results even if the general pattern is not far from what we could have expected.

You have to be careful with survey-based studies. You get results like Subsaharan Africans being the highest in conscientiousness and East Asians the lowest simply because Asians tended to rate themselves as lazy compared to the people they lived with (other Asians). You see the opposite for Africans, hence the results.
Egypt HDI of 0.69 is lower than China’s of 0.73.
I think it was RR that wrote a large article about Chinese fabrication of their statistics.
It might apply to Egypt too though.
Maybe, though don’t worry, I don’t take any of these studies as fact given they’re not real science. It’s just speculation and (questionable) statistics.

Does anyone knows about natural hypnotic resistance ? I don’t have insomnia but for traveling confort, I ve tried several times taking very strong hypnotic (up to 8 tablets of Valium in one hour) and they don’t have any sleeping effect on me ? Now I remember that a surgeon told me when I was 12 that I was almost impossible to sedate. I was looking for the cause but their is nothing except people who have been acccustomed to those drugs (wich is not my case). If someone has any knowledge about this field ?
