Here’s an interesting article by journalist Daniel Seligman. If you read the article, let me know what you think his IQ is.
The reason I am asking you to estimate Seligman’s IQ is because many years ago, Seligman was administered the WAIS-R. He once published a lively description of what it was like to take the WAIS-R. Although he did not reveal his IQ score, he revealed enough information about how he did on a few subtests that an expert can approximate his IQ from a limited number of subtests he did mention.
But since 99.999% of us are not experts, his IQ is not publicly known, so please guess his IQ from the article he wrote, and I will see if anyone guesses close to the right number.
No idea what his IQ is but the article is interesting.
I would say his iq is in the 120s range. Why? My argument is talkers about a subject do well in that subject but aren’t elite in it. For example pua coaches tend to be better at getting laid than average but they can’t compete with the male movie stars and powerful who get sexy bombshells regularly.
Another example are property developers vs house flippers on tv. Sure the house flippers on tv brag more about money than sheldon adelson but they can’t compete with billionaire real estate moguls.
It’s like comparing a good physics teacher with Albert Einstein.
The real geniuses are out there doing their thing and not really talking. So that means talking about iq means an above average intelligence but rarely elite iq.
I thought it was much higher, like in the high 140s, based on the number of concepts and their apparent complexity, but that was just a vague feeling.
150? it’s obv. way above averager
Totally off-topic I know, but what would you estimate the IQ of John Travolta to be? I ask after his recent Oscars debacle, where he got creepy close with all the lady stars on stage. Like look in this picture (http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-31544555) at how Scarlett J is staring straight ahead, stone-faced, and Travolta is just not getting it. Is he kind of retarded? Maybe the fact that he weirdly mispronounced that singer’s name at the Oscars last year is because he can’t really read that well, and really didn’t understand how to put those unusual syllables together? Most of the rolls I recall him in are where he plays someone stupid, like on Welcome Back Kotter, in Sat Night Fever, in Pulp Fiction etc. Hey does fly big airplanes, though, which I would think requires a base-line IQ of what, maybe 110? Hard to figure out.
Interesting question. The character he played in the horror film Carrie (1976) probably had an IQ around 90; since the character was basically a criminal (would drive around drinking alcohol and bashed pigs to death so he could collect enough pig’s blood to dump on a girl at her senior prom).
But he also played a super genius in the 1996 film Phenomenon. I remembered being annoyed that someone who seemed so dumb was playing a genius.
But he’s probably smarter than he seems. The fact that he’s quite rich and able to fly airplanes himself indicates an IQ of at least 115. He also claims to be a great scrabble player. Oprah once asked him what his best scrabble score was and he stated some ridiculous high number…could have been a lie.
On the other hand being a scientologist might put a likely ceiling on his IQ. It’s also worth noting that one of his kids was thought to be mentally handicapped, and some suspected it was autism. However the parents of autistic kids often have high IQs, so that leaves more questions than answers.

Yeah, I remember avoiding that movie precisely for that reason.

Possibly, but there are also some smart scientologists: Beck, jazz musician Chick Corea, or “Earthlink founder Sky Dayton,” who I’d never heard of, but I guess you have to be pretty smart to start a billion-dollar Internet company. Former scientologists include William S. Burroughs and Neil Gaiman, both of whom were smart enough to leave. And Sharon Stone, who is frequently mentioned in lists of hi-IQ celebrities, with the score of 150 often bandied about, though to me she seems only about IQ 120-125.
u need $ to join Scientology; more iq = more $. ergo scientologists are smarter
At all economic levels there will be a range of IQ. Scientologists are probably the dumbest of the rich.
IQ= 138 or 138 +
He could hardly be lower, but my “scale” doesn’t work well enough higher than this point ))
I mean Daniel Seligman
IQ = 135-140
Iq 137,365 cents, sorry.
So, PP, what is your opinion?
It’s not a matter of opinion. I’ll be doing a post about his actual test scores.
Great, can’t wait
