great gives all more time to talk. when we last left off, you said you ‘doubted’ the data set had less variability than the general populous, even though the data set vastly overrepresented the top portion of the education spectrum.
“The whole city is freaking out because this kind of thing never happens here”
Given that a soldier was shot I’m going to go out on a limb and speculate Islamists. An Islamist murdered another Canadian soldier with his car on Monday. So apparently that kind of thing does happen in Canada. You can expect more of it in the future.
Situation ongoing, suspects still at large – but no proper description of the man killed, or the still-active suspects – the citizens of Ottawa kept in ignorance, no possibility of assistance in identifying and catching the terrorists ASAP.
*This* is when you realize that political correctness is more important than your life, or possibly many people’s lives. This is when you realize the *real* priority of the ruling elites.
You seem reluctant to state what you think the motives of these ruling elites are, but you’re right; very little information has been provided, much to the frustration of the radio broadcasters I was listening to today.
and in my most recent book (Addicted to Distraction) I described *exactly* what the mass media are currently doing, under the term ‘First Strike Framing’)
In this case the media/ government/ police have deliberately NOT allowed the visceral link to form between the perpetrator and the act of terrorism; by tempero-spatially separating the shock of the first news report from the known identifiers are the terrorists. I first noticed this with the Mumbai attacks
The terrorists were still actively slaughtering and torturing dozens of people when the BBC coverage was mostly concerned that this might lead to a ‘backlash’.

I fear the sociopaths taking advantage of our fears more than the actual terrorists. I’m not talking about TV talk show hosts–I’m talking about sociopath generals and businessmen who use terrorism to bankrupt entire nations and destabilize entire regions and sociopath politicians who use terrorism as a stepping stool into popularity.
While these terrorists exist and should be punished if found on Western soil, they aren’t Ottawa’s biggest problem nor the world’s.
JayG, yes there are sociopaths who take advantage of public fear, though knowledgeable people disagree about who they are.

Taking terrorism too seriously, instead of mocking it, results in more disgruntled people becoming “martyrs” in order to cover their failures.
The funny thing is once we started taking Islamism seriously, Islamism made a comeback in the middle east, except in Iran, which has become more secular, mostly because the War on Terror is against Wahhabis.
Sure terrorism is bad, but nothing is worse than taking away money from capitalists who have and will increase our living standards (in the long run) and raise the living standards of billions.

I responded in the Greg Cochran thread, where that discussion is taking place.
A soldier is dead & so is a gunman but more gunmen are believed to be at large.

Well the military has been warned not to wear their uniforms.
